I am not a gun nut, but the firearm collection is amazing, everything from pistols up to a wall gun arranged in modern cases going on for yards and yards. Rifles captured from Indians! WWII German weapons! All kinds of cool firearms identified only with a number that you can reference in a notebook. What a bizarre way to label items in a museum! This is the least user friendly display method imaginable. The museum would be a five star attraction if they would just label the firearms! How much trouble would it be to stick up a little label stating the caliber, maker and date? Maybe they could add a star to the real treasures. I forgot to look for the 50 caliber Hawken rifle, the famous frontier weapon. I know it is there.
My favorites were well labeled displays of items carried by soldiers in various wars. Displays also relate to Fort Armstrong, the Colonel Davenport House, the Effie Afton, and the Civil War Prison Camp. There is also a strong emphasis on weapons, leather goods, and other articles manufactured here.
