The best part about this museum is hands down the dinosaur exhibit. What makes this part of the museum so special is that the museum itself has found most of the dinosaur bones. I like how they display pictures of the dig crew finding Jane (the young T-Rex) and Homer (the triceratops) in Montana. Makes for a more real experience. The rest of the museum is interesting, but I think it has a lot of room for improvement and updates. You can really tell what displays were new and what were older. The new Geological Rockford display was nice. I enjoyed learning what Rockford used to look like years ago. Overall my husband and I had a nice time. I'm proud that Rockford has such a Gem to share. We went on a Sunday afternoon during 4th of July weekend and there weren't as many visitors as I imagined. I'm hopeful that Burpee will continue to grow and that travelers will make it a must-see in the mid-west!

This museum does not get the recognition it deserves. Interesting, well displayed exhibits and family-friendly. Rockford should be proud of this museum! The dinosaur exhibits by themselves are great and Jane is world-renowned!

This is one of the smaller natural history museums that I have been in but it was impressive. It was nice to see an almost entire real not casts skeleton of a dinosaur. I was there during there Ricks Picks exhibit and that was really a fun exhibit. If all of their temporary exhibits are as nice as that one was then this museum is worth the time and money. It is also nice that they have reciprocity with other natural history museums. It was cold and wet the day I was there so didn't get out on the water front but looked like a nice place to sit and enjoy the river.

Burpee and the Discovery Center are connected but they are two different museums and one pass can NOT get you into the other museum, not even a membership.
This is a nice small museum. Good for homeschool kids, small church groups, or classes. There is just enough there to keep a young minds attention. There are homeschool classes you can pay for, they are reasonalbe. My son did a study about worms and this museum was crawling with them...
Go to every floor, there is something there to look at. I've been the museum a few times now and did not realize there were dinosaur bones on the lower level.
There is no place to eat there or buy food. You can bring in a lunch, just go over to the Dicovery area side there are places to eat there or outside.
You can bring in a strollers.
