“Needs an update.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 June 2014

From what I heard, the Clock Tower Resort used to be a really nice place. It has aged and not kept up with the times. The hallways have an old musty smell. The bathroom had mold around the ceiling of the bathroom. And the mattress had a dip in the middle that definitely means replacement. Overall, it was still a decent place to stay. The real reason we stayed was the water park, CoCoKey Bay. It was totally worth it, even at $10 per person. The $8 for a locker was bogus, so since it wasn't crowded we kept our stuff with us. They were testing the water while we were there and they stated that they do it every two hours and would shut down the park rather than risk public safety. A plus in my book. The food at the restaurant wasn't great but with all the places to eat all around it, who cares. We stayed during the week so we didn't get caught up with overcrowding. And the desk person(s) really seemed to care about my vacation. In short, older place but very relaxing.

We were shocked the second we pulled into the hotel area. The hotel is so ran down as if they don't have money to make repairs and updates. The front entrance had major peeling paint and overgrown weeds all over the place. The hotel seemed vacant as we were the only car near building 1400. We did not feel safe as the outdoor lock on the building was missing so anyone could walk in the building right off the highway. We got right back in our car and called the acting manager Ann to report this and she gave us major attitude. She was very rude, pretty much called me a liar and refused to give us a refund. We took pictures as evidence. We ate the cost of the hotel mainly because we didn't feel safe at the Clock Tower. We went to Holiday Inn. It was a great decision. Avoid this hotel. The best part is the big clock facing the highway doesn't even display the correct time.. Classic!!! What a dump. I will post pictures.

The rooms could use some updating as well as the entire hotel. The staff tries to please you by being courteous and understanding, but of course they are limited in what they can do. A good restaurant is definitely needed. How about fixing the outdoor pool?

I stayed at this hotel for a convention that was also being held there, June 12-14, 2014. The staff seemed unprepared to handle large numbers of check-ins, which you would think they would have prepared for. It took 20-30 minutes to check-in. Many rooms were double booked, with guests unlocking rooms and finding other people in the rooms. Many hallways smelled like a sewer. The outside pool was out of order. The first evening I visited three ice machines out of order. The free cold breakfast offered coffee, oj, milk, granola, yogurt, cold cereals packaged in the plastic containers, stale sweet rolls and mini-muffins. It was pretty awful. After my shower there was a huge, soaking wet 8x4 foot area of carpet where something had leaked. It was midnight and I didn't bother calling the front desk as I was checking out the next day. We will NEVER book a convention here again.

Really nice staff at this aging resort. The rooms aren't fancy but we thought it did the trick. Keep your expectations low and you'll be fine. Didn't get a chance to check out the water park.

The "free" Breakfast on the other hand was darn near inedible. The 'eggs' were like sponges and the rest of it was gross and pretty limited.

We were part of a large wedding party that had reserved a block of rooms at this "resort". I was looking forward to a lush, nicely appointed place that would cap off a beautifully planned for wedding. From the highway, you see the clock tower which looked rather stately from a distance. But upon the turn into the drive of this place, the first reaction is yuck! No curb appeal. Weeds everywhere, dead plants, and trees is all you see. Back parking lot was gross, and trash was strewn about. Entering the hotel, you are greeted with a musty, damp smell. The hall "carpet" is frayed and stained. The room itself was ok given what we saw first of this place. Ample place for clothes. Bathtub needed updating badly. There is a patio with two chairs, but again no one would want to read or lounge out there among the weeds, gnats, and mosquitoes from the overgrown "greenery". Hallway had a large tub to collect water from the leaky ceiling tiles… not a warm fuzzy feeling. Weekend Breakfast "buffet" was nasty. Not want you would expect from a "resort". Waitstaff wasn't very pleasant. But given their workplace, I wouldn't be either. No outdoor pool. It didn't have water. And this is in June! Our TV was nice, and the bed was very comfortable. We were able to bring our little dachshund which was nice. This place needs a serious overhaul to raise their ratings from #22 out of 24. This place is not cared for at all. I was glad to leave this place, and as we drove off, I noticed the Clock Tower had a stopped clock. Go figure.

The Clock Tower has been a well respected and venerable Inn in the Rockford area for many years. It has wonderful ambience and well appointed rooms. But it is slipping a bit. There is just something missing. For example, the beautiful pool was out of order. The desk was very kind in offering water passes to the large indoor water park. Our guests, my son and his family which included two young children with his wife did enjoy this venue and said they would return. But the breakfast was not very appetizing. So, they skipped it the next day. I personally visited the hotel and spoke with the desk staff and learned at that time that the property was no longer associated with Best Western, and had separated company only recently. We had our reception there over forty years ago, and it has been considered top notch. It can come back, and we wish this historically respected property well.
