Amazing cake and welcome refreshment after a walk up to the selworthy beacon. Great views up to Dunkery beacon. Great national trust site with great little shop.

“What has happened to Periwinkle tearooms?”
Reviewed 14 September 2013

I have been enjoying cream teas here most years since 1989, usually more than once a year. The scones have always been the best, really light, and always so fresh. They just melted in your mouth. They came with large pots of cream and jam. I always thought the jam was home made, but I may be wrong. In fact I would never have a cream tea anywhere else, nowhere could match the Periwinkle! BUT it has all changed, and what a disappointment. I visited in June, and found it rather less than excellent. In fact the scones tasted a bit stale. My friend, who hadn't been there before, thought it was great. I thought maybe it was a one off bad scone day, though it has never happened before! However I visited in August and was again very disappointed...I won't be having a cream tea there again.I wondered if the management had changed as didn't see the usual staff there. Also the whole atmosphere seemed different, and less welcoming. I see from the other comments that yes indeed the management has changed. A great shame and the end of an era!

“Beautiful location”

A real must if you are visiting this area. Old fashioned village, maintained by the NT - it is a lovely place for a cream tea. Excellent walks all around suitable for anyone.

“Lovely setting and service”
Reviewed 9 September 2013 via mobile

Lovely setting in the national trust village of selworthy, in a picture postcard cottage surrounded by flowers. Friendly service, but the cakes we ordered were just too full on sickly: the lemon cake was just cloyingly sweet and laden with buttercream , no discernible lemon flavour. Couldn't eat it. Fine if you have an incredibly sweet tooth I'm sure!
