I had the most relaxing and enjoyable holiday at the Del Monte guest house at Henley Beach for two weeks during the summer. I found the atmosphere friendly and relaxing. The beach was clean and inviting and the locale full of culture and interest. The sunsets were magnificent. I especially loved the beach walks at dusk. The local restaurants and cafes were excellent. I would recommend this guest house to people with an appreciation of history and olde worlde charm. If you want modern, sterile and characterless accommodation book into the Hyatt or Hilton.

The picture of Basil Fawlty behind the reception desk couldn't be more misleading. Rhonda and her husband are both charming and helpful. The hotel has other things going for it as well: It's right by a long, sandy beach, and yet it's quiet. The rooms are large, with plenty of cupboard space. A good Continental breakfast costs $12.50 including coffee; and English breakfast costs and extra $3.
There are problems, however. The hotel is in need of refurbishment: It's rather gloomy inside, and the paintwork in the rooms has seen better days. Breakfast is served from 8.30 - 12.00, so it can get very busy at 8.30.
To be fair, the hotel, like Henly Beach itself, seemed popular with retired people.

Interesting place - nicely restored old cricket club right on the beach at Henley Beach, so location is fabulous.
Rooms are clean & quite nicely furnished, but the air con condensation drains into a bathroom drain with a very long drop, and the resulting echoing drip when we turned it on was like water torture.
We've met this problem before, so went downstairs and borrowed a length of string from the host, tied it to the top of the drain so the water flowed down it & solved the problem - but he clearly knew all about the problem, so why on earth hadn't he done something similar & fixed it long ago ?
But these guys are seriously confused - he booked us in for two nights, forgot which room he'd given us & forgot to tell his wife how long we were staying, so when we left for the day next morning she came chasing out thinking we were leaving without paying.
Someone turned our "make up room" sign to "don't disturb" - but although they knew we'd left for the day and were coming back they couldn't remember which room we were in plus they never checked the room, so we got back late that night to a totally unmade room...
Whole place is a little weird..
Good restaurant called Casanovas down the block opposite the supermarket & gas station, with a very handy bottle shop for great cheap red wine
