“What a Find!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 January 2014

WOW.. This is a real find. This historic home is magnificent. It is so cozy with a wood burning fire in the parlor or enjoy a fire pit in the backyard. If you are looking for relaxing, this is the place to come. Or if you like activity there is biking in small town and hiking at Starved Rock State Park. There are so many things to do, I can not list them all! But you will find that you will love just to stick around the house. They have 1,000 DVDs, and we came with the full intentions of catching up on some films. But at the end of our 2 night stay, we realized we didn't even watch one, let alone turn on the tv. Monika is such a talented chef and that is reflected in her outstanding optional dinners. Please don't be foolish!! Attend all that you can. Otherwise you will regret it. Jeff and Monika are perfect innkeepers. They will give you your solitude if wanted, or engage you in lively conversation. These two have unusual backgrounds too. We loved everything about this place. We plan on going back many times. Run don't walk!!!

Chestnut Street Inn is a remarkable experience that offers fine dining and restful lodging. The setting is a beautiful historic home with large and comfortable guest rooms. The common areas are welcoming and relaxing, and include a wonderful outdoor seating area. Jeff and Monika are friendly and gracious hosts. Do not miss the opportunity to enjoy the gourmet dinner prepared by Chef Monika (be sure to make dinner reservations when you reserve your room). Our Moroccan themed meal was outstanding with each dish perfectly prepared and expertly served. Its obvious Jeff and Monika pour their passion into every aspect of Chestnut Street Inn, and we can’t wait to return.

Room Tip: Be sure to make dinner reservations when you reserve your room.

We have been coming to this inn for 2 years and it has become our favorite place for a relaxing getaway. Jeff and Monika, the innkeepers, are exceptional hosts and always make us feel welcome and right at home.
The house itself is historical and very traditional without being overly formal or "stuffy." The common rooms are nicely decorated and comfortable. We enjoy having a before-dinner glass of wine in the living room/library and chatting with fellow guests. There are many repeat guests because, once having discovered this B&B, you want to keep returning.
There is always some freshly-baked tasty treat on the sideboard on the sun porch. If you are lucky it will be Monika's coconut macaroons!
Although Sheffield is a small community there is no lack of things to do in the surrounding area. Do a bit of research and you will find many sights/activities to stay occupied. One great benefit to staying here is that Monika not only serves an outstanding breakfast but will also prepare dinner for you if you wish. She is happy to accommodate any special dietary requests. The monthly menu is posted on their website, along with special occasion meals such as the Julia Child dinner, the chocolate dinner, and holiday dinners.
This is a unique country inn with a relaxing atmosphere, warm and genuine hospitality, and delicious, inventive food. It's a wonderful place to celebrate a birthday or anniversary when you want intimate, quiet surroundings.

Room Tip: The Rosewood Suite is very roomy, with a big bathroom and a sun porch where you can have your meals...

OUTSTANDING two night experience we shared w/ another extremely well traveled couple who dug this place as much as we did. Food......outstanding....culinarily "complex".....not too "cute"...emphasis on quality......locally organically sourced w/ a complete explanation if you wish.

we did two evenings.. the single 630 sitting twice and two mornings........ WOW

Fair priced nice wine and beer...no sauce if that's your poison . no prob for us. bring you own.

rooms.....very nice upper class BnB stuff.....robes, chocolates, shampoos, great towels...VERY quiet......locks on doors(not needed).....wifi ,DVDs, TV(don't really know if they all worked LOL..never checked)

Lively art of conversation is available at all times w/ the hosts ....BIG FUN!

Sheffield is a delightful village and has many fun things to do in the area. Be sure to check out the Woodland Palace in Francis Park by Kewaunee. Princeton has many great options as well. the Hennepin Canal is worthwhile. Drive through Tiskilwa for sure.

We have given this place the highest GWAY recommendation and have already recommended it to other like minded friends.

we will be back

Do not let the drive to Sheffield stop you from visiting this gem! Just get in the car and GO! The chef is a genius who will come to your table and explain the anthropology behind, and the cultural impact of, your food. Those who need gluten-free meals are welcome. The weekend meals vary from Moroccan cuisine to classic "Julia" French fair. All ingredients are local if at all possible, and the location of this inn makes for a bountiful meal. The dining room is small, so be sure to call ahead. There is only one seating per evening. If you want to know what creme brulee SHOULD taste like, call now! Check out the website for the "menu" of the night, and feel free to stay. Many of the rooms have been recently renovated.

Monica and Jeff you lovely wonderful fantastic hosts, We came from danish state television to your big house to do : Who do you think you are. I will never forget that stay. My huge wonderful bedroom, so romantic, everything clean and nice. And the food, never had it better in the whole world. I came from the other site off the world (almost) and you will live forever in my memory. Everything were perfect.
