“Great place for a party!”
Reviewed 24 December 2013

Had another fantastic evening with friends at The Calcot Christmas party night (we came last year and the year before!). Lovely, attentive staff, delicious food and great music. We partied the night away in style! Comfortable rooms and great breakfast too. A wonderful way to start Christmas! See you next year!

Had a great night. Food was very good and we didn't have to pre order which is unusual at Xmas. The room was full of party goers and the atmosphere was very jolly. Everyone up dancing all night. We stayed the night in the hotel and had a good night's sleep followed by a hearty breakfast. We have come to the Xmas party night for about 5 years running and we will certAinly be back next year!

Stayed here last weekend whilst visiting our daughter.
The room was comfortable and clean but very basic with 1980's furniture.
There was a TV and free Wi-Fi available in the room. The shower was ok, clean but quiet old.Take your own toiletries as the hotel provided only a soap dispenser which needed two hands to operate and did not appear particularly hygienic. The hotel towels were ok but not the whitiest I have come accross.
We did not have breakfast at the hotel so cannot comment on the quality etc.We had a couple of drinks in the bar in the evening, the staff were friendly and service was good.
There was a Christmas party in the hotel one evening therefore we had a struggle in finding a parking space.

Visited over the weekend as part of the Christmas festivities. Room was reasonable size. However, shower head was to big and heavy for bracket so you had to shower virtually on top of the bath taps. Hair dryer needs updating. Paintwork on top of the entrance porch is in need of tlc. Food was wonderful and tasty with a perfectly cooked rare steak. Bravo to the chef! Staff friendly. Hotel needs a bit of am update. Would visit again.

My stay started off well - plenty of parking and a friendly introduction in reception.

Bar was small and highly priced but with nice seating area and quite cosy. Decided to eat in the bar - which seems like not an expected thing to do - still had to go into the restaurant itself to order my food. The food however was very good - well presented and tasty.

The room was of a good size, reliable wifi and nice powerful shower, so all was well at this point.

The second night was when things changed. There was a works Christmas party well and truly underway in the function room (the room directly below mine), and boy was it loud. I spoke to reception who advised me that it would finish 'around midnight'. I spent the remainder of the evening listening to my sink vibrating to the sound of "Hi-ho silver lining" and other such popular Christmas classics (such as Summer Holiday!).

The next morning after a meeting I returned to the hotel and asked if there was another function that evening. When advised there was I requested to change rooms. This was accomodated and I moved into a twin room on the ground floor.

This room was very different to the old one, it appeared to be constructed of an ingenious material that was completely transparent to sound. I spent the evening marvelling at the amount of times my upstairs neighbour had to open and close the chest of drawers and then listened to the Graham Norton show on my next door neighbours television while he entertained me with a wide variety of bodily noises.

On checkout I was asked about my stay and when mentioned noise was told I should haveasked for a room in the other side of the hotel - however this was my first stay so I could not have known this.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the left (non bar) side of the hotel for peace and quiet.

Great location for an overnight stay in Reading. The room was great, with lots of space, good sized TV and a very comfy bed. The staff were really friendly on arrival and answered all of our questions, and the night porter was especially cheery considering we returned at 2am. There was also ample parking, so we didn't have to fight for a spot.
The breakfast in the morning was also great with the sausages being the absolute highlight! Again, we were greeted by welcoming staff who were really attentive. We would be more than happy to stay here again and have already recommended the hotel to friends and family.

Went to the Sunday carvery for a family celebration (12 of us). Service and food were both very good, as was the price. It's a popular venue so best to book ahead. Good choices of food and the drinks aren't the usual rip-off prices you sometimes get with this sort of deal.
