“Fell below the standards expected of Best Western”

Booked into this hotel on internet as close to friends we were visiting. As it was a Best Western I though I knew what standards to expect, but this place fell below them. Lots of little things made the stay not what we would expect. Basic is how I would describe the hotel. For the price £95 for one night, I expected more. Bill was over charged until I pointed out mistake. Won't return here.

Be warned. You can get a pint of foster for £3.70. A pint of lemonade and orange will cost an eye watering £5.30. When I asked why I was told its because we use to bottles of orange!!!! Really it's a rip off and as I'm a corporate customer of one of the largest supermarkets I am posting my receipt to the finance department in Oder for them to re look at our hotel choices as a business. I'm shocked!!!

On arrival it appeared to be total chaos getting on the car park and into the hotel, I discovered there was a School Prom booked that evening so expected the worst. However once the crowds of camera toting parents had dispersed, things calmed down and all credit to the management and staff if I hadn't arrived when I did I would hardly have been aware of the function. Very pleasant one night stay, restaurant menu is a little limited but adequate. All in all very good experience and hotel. Would recommend.

Stayed for two nights hotel selected for its location close to where I would be working. Have stayed many times always the same time of the year so much entertained both evenings by the school proms and the chosen outfits from the gorgeous to the oh dear. My room was on the ground floor and very clean and comfortable. The negative was the creaking floor boards from the room above, someone with a very heavy tread who seemed to be on the move constantly. I was kept awake until early hours by loud talking and laughter again from the room above but they eventually quietened so did get some sleep. Great night the second night all quiet. I ate in the restaurant and my first meal was perfectly cooked steak with the most tasty chips I have eaten in a long time. Second night good but not quite as good as my first meal. A good choice at breakfast with hot toast brought to the table with your chosen beverage, no queuing to make your own. All the staff are very pleasant and attentive. Despite one night of interrupted sleep I would choose to stay here again. I did catch the bus into Reading which has a good choice of shops and eateries. It takes approx 20 minutes but beats taking the car in.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back of the hotel quieter.

My wife and I have just returned from a night at the Calcot where we stayed and enjoyed a Four Seasons tribute night (New Jersey Jukebox).
We had a room at the back of the hotel so road noise wasn't a problem (very quiet). We also had plenty of cool air flowing into the room from the windows, so it wasn't stuffy.
Good powerful shower with plenty of hot water and shampoo/shower gel supplied in the all-in-one dispensers.
Breakfast was very tasty with some fresh melon, juices, yoghurts, etc, plenty of toast of offer along with a decent cup of tea (tea/coffee facilities also in room).
The cooked items were available on the self-service counter along with eggs (fried, poached or scrambled). All in all, a tasty filling breakfast and a good nights sleep.
The function that we attended was also very enjoyable (well done the four lads in "New Jersey Jukebox"!) and the food served (table-service) was very tasty. This is the second event we have attended here and will be returning for a family birthday party with a group of 11 persons, such is the quality and value for money on offer.
The only drawback is the price of drinks at the bar! £4.95 for a bottle of Crabbie's Ginger Beer is well over the top!
Well done staff and band!

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back of the hotel to ensure you are not bothered by road noise.

Hotel is basic for the price! Bedroom overlooked car park and I meant a car is parked 2 feet from my window! Rooms are clean and tidy, but nothing special. Food in the restaurant was a joke! 3 starters not available, 2 main courses not available, Steak ran out and 2 out of the 4 specials were not available added to that the bar prices a extortionate, I for one will not be back!

Room Tip: Away from the car park

Stayed for one night on a business trip. Standard double room was clean and pleasant enough. Ground floor room with small window looking out at boundary fence and residential neighbours' windows. Felt uncomfortable having the blinds open as I felt the neighbours could see in. Creaky floor boards in room above meant I was kept awake for a while after attempting to turn in. In the bathroom, when I turned on cold tap to clean my teeth, hot water came out! Ran it for a while expecting it to run cold, but no change. Double checked the hot tap in case they were wrongly labelled, but even hotter water emerged!
On the plus side, the reception staff were friendly and helpful, as were the dining room staff. Enjoyed a delicious breakfast the next morning before the busy day ahead.
