“Disappointing”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 May 2013

Was looking forward to a long weekend in the Chilterns. Location very pleasant, tiny village in pretty countryside. Room was good size and bathroom ensuite. Separate entrance to pub all fine.. But shower head needed descaling, toiletries scarce, breakfast basic, one cup of coffee, no pot! Worst of all it closes on Sundays at 5pm with no drink or food available even for residents. Had to drive to next village for evening meal. Not value for money at £100 per night.

Room Tip: We had the chianti room which was fine once the children outside and upstairs stopped bouncing aroun...

I returned to the Reading area on business for the second time in as many months...I wish I'd found this place before.

Really lovely room (Rioja) super clean and fresh smelling.

A very friendly inn attached, pleasant restaurant with good food & wine.

I arrived slightly before the normal opening time but this wasn't a problem and I felt I was made extremely welcome. I guess this is one of the benefits of a pub B&B compared to the big chain hotels.

The New Inn is high quality at great value...I'm already looking forward to future visits.

We live in the next village and have been here plenty of times for snack food and full meals.

The food is excellent and good value too as well as the Children's portions being large.

They allow dogs to come into the bar section of the pub and the beer Garden is very large so the kid are happy!

We went last week for an easter meal with my family and my parents, the roasts were great - lamb was a little fatty so they brought out some more lamb for us which was fab!

Great country Pub with great food!

Had an excellent Sunday lunch here the Sunday before Christmas 2012. A warm welcome, great food and good choice of wine. The beef was cooked to perfection for our tastes -- medium rare. Would recommend to all.

We expected a warm welcome for our Saturday overnight stay in January, but the room we were shown had no heating on at 9.30 pm. And the duvet was no more than a thin coverlet. We did point out the problems and another quilt was brought and free drinks supplied. Meanwhile we had turned on all the radiators. We were disappointed, however.

We went here for dinner last night. The welcome from the female hostess was friendly. We had a table near the fire than rather than going into the main dining room .... The dining room did look very welcoming though. The menu was on a printed A4 piece of paper and was fuss free. We ordered mushrooms topped with blue cheese to share . This was most tasty and came with a small salad garnish. Main courses of home made briber , and steak and ale pie were both hearty and full of taste. Even though the hostess had to come around the bar , our drinks were refreshed at suitable times. Many locals were gracing the bar , and the atmosphere was friendly. The bar is a great place to spend the evening. We didn't stay overnight here as we have a home locally. Many thanks for a great evening

We stayed for one night in The Champagne room, because we thought we would treat ourselves to a really nice room. On arrival we had trouble finding someone to open up and receive us. Our room appeared very nice indeed on first sight. However on closer inspection, there was a bulb missing from the lamp and a bulb had gone from above the bed. The taps were awkward to control and the bath water was tepid at best. The bath plug mechanism still wasn't working, (see review Nov. '11. Although the bathroom and wet room was large, the bathroom door consisted of a tiny saloon type semi- frosted panel of glass, which didn't lock or even meet the wall!!!! The walk in wet room, had 'peekaboo' see-through part frosted glass panels, which my husband found hilarious as he sat facing it, on the bed!
On the whole the room is overly stylish and it is unnecessary really to have a wet room and shower and bath.
Re TV. A super large wall mounted telly, but we had to ring down and get the man to come up because it was 'frozen'. He soon sorted this out, by using a table knife to stab the mechanism down the side of the screen. Very entertaining.
Our mother spent the night in the Rioja room next door with no TV, radio or clock radio.
Breakfast: As vegetarians we asked for this option from the menu. The order was taken so fast that we forgot to ask for scrambled eggs. Instead of bacon and sausage, all we got was an extra egg. Not great value. Vegetarian sausages would have been appreciated.
On the plus side, the bed was very comforatble and I slept well. It was very quiet.

Room Tip: Don't bother paying extra for the Champagne room as the other rooms seem good enough. Champagne...
