This is a peaceful place to stay to get away from it all. Cabins are well cared for, accommodations are comfortable. Weber grill on the back porch, great wooded view. Management seems to have thought of every thing. Highly recommended!!!!

Room Tip: Country decorated. Comfortable temperature. Fireplace to use. Hundreds of DVDs and VHS to borrow. Ca...

Just back from spending the week-end at Kishauwau. It was our first time and won't be our last. We are already making plans of when we want to go back. The cabin is nothing special, a bit old fashion, but is cozy, clean and has everything you need. No TV programing or internet which at first felt weird but soon we were enjoying it. It was a very cold week-end but we were very warm and very cozy in the cabin. It was so quiet and peaceful. We loved the wood-burning stove and the HUGE whirlpool tub. We did run out of hot water when we were filling up the whirlpool tub but it was doable. We brought a few DVD's and borrowed some from the huge library they have and spent an evening curled up on couch... so relaxing! Our cabin was a dog-friendly cabin but no hint of a dog ever being there. Unable to explore the grounds due to hunting season and the cold temps but we plan on doing that do that when we go back!!!

My boyfriend and I stayed for just one night in early November with our dogs. I believe it was the Zonda cabin. Beautiful scenery. Cozy place with stocked kitchen, wood burning stove. Water in tub was plenty hot.

There is a rule binder, which spells out a lot of things that i would consider common sense. Some construction on the lodge next door to ours at 8am, which wasn't too big of a bother.

Can't wait to return

Peaceful, quiet, serene, relaxing, romantic, cozy, and much more. You never want to leave. We have been going here for years. The original owners were like a extended family. The legacy continues with their heirs. We go several times a year. It is always beautiful. A retreat and a treat to your soul. Did I mention the whirlpool tub, the fire burning stove, the fire pit. There is the honor system, the office is open 24/7, free games, movies, dvds, puzzles.

We have been guests at Kishauwau on the Vermilion River for over 20 years. The original owners, Ben and Ellen King, were dear friends of ours. We know that they would be extremely proud and happy to see how their children and their children's spouses have treated their former Kishauwau guests. They would also love to see how clean, bright, comfortable and beautiful Kishauwau is now - carrying on their tradition of wanting their guests to have a place to rest, renew and play in a magical and gorgeous environment.
We have continued to visit Kishauwau several times a year since the sad deaths of Ben and of Ellen. We have stayed as long as a month at times and always look forward to going back. Deb and Bob - the rates at Kishauwau are still very reasonable. The next generation of the King family is very helpful, capable, dedicated and caring. Kishauwau is a rare gift. Give it another try.

Room Tip: All of the cabins are lovely.

Took my 13 year old son for a boys getaway and the place was better then I expected for the money. Clean spacious cabins, beautifully kept grounds, friendly fast service, excellent amenities. Yes as some reviews noted seems to be a lot of rules and regulations but nothing to detract from the stay. In fact they have the "honor" system in place and you can go and get what you need at the office and put the money on an envelope. Ton of games and DVDs....help yourself, all free to borrow. Minutes to Starved Rock and shopping etc. This is the type of place you go to to forget the real world....and I did.

Would definitely recommend to others...in fact already have.

Room Tip: Book early.

The entire management style of Kishauwau on the Vermillion changed with the passing of it's original owners, Ben and Ellen King. Ellen died 3 years ago, and even back when her health was declining, one could see the "changes" Ben's children would make. Binders with rules and policies within each cabin, rates increased for cabins, charges for firewood, or late checkout.
Ben & Ellen were the most kindest people on earth. They made the Kishauwau experience. And yes, Ellen always was available for her guests. Service and quality left this property when they did. We reserved a cabin 4 or 5 times a year for 12 years! I would consider that in the business world to be loyalty. But with these "changes" that the heirs made, we decided no more. We were not going to pay more for less, nor witness this degrading of this beautiful property, because it would no longer be what it was.

Room Tip: My last trip here was in June of 2010. This drop down does not go that far back.
