We really wanted to spend some time in the Archipelago whilst in Stockholm , but struggled to find information and , for a high summer trip , left it late to book. We struck lucky , however , and an overnight stay on Finnhamn was magical.
The three hour trip up the archipelago to the island was an experience in itself with beautiful unspoilt islands to view and plenty of interesting stops. Despite the various choices of accommodation being booked up , the island seemed almost deserted and we walked around with a sense of having the place to ourselves.
We had a great meal at the cafe& Krog (pub) which included vegetarian choices and a stunning view whilst our overnight stay at the hostel was basic but fine. I only hesitate in recommending I for fear of letting out the secret of its charms...

It has a very nice location with a lovely view. We spend a night in one of small houses, nr 4 close to the mainhouse (2 rooms per house). There is a bunk bed for 2 people plus 1 single bed in the room, 2 chairs and a small table. I really missed running water in the room or close outside...
In the yellow mainhouse the breakfast is served and it's very good with a good Swedish b&b standard. You also find kitchen, showers and toilets.

We went in Finnhamn on october, as the summer season finished, for a weekend.
In the hostel we were 6 costumers and the staff. We were placed in a cottage near the hostel, very very beatiful. The breakfast (50 sek/night) was complete and good, with yougurt, cornflakes, jam, coffe, tea, milk, many kind of bread, butter, prosciutto, cheese and many other things. Finnhamn is beautiful, with its rocks, its sea and its woods.
It is an hostel in the very sense of the word, so you have to clean up your room when you check-in.
The only "problem" (but at the end it wasnt a problem) was that we sleep in our cottage but the bathroom was in the central building of the hostel, so we had to go out (in october the sweden's evenings are cold) to go to the bathroom; but we don't reputate it a problem.
I suggest this place to people who loves nature (Finnhamn is a natural reserve), who wants to spend some days in peace and in contact with the wild part of the stockholm archipelago!

Great STF hostel on the small island of Finnhamn, three hours ferry sailing from Stockholm! Simple twin rooms in the main building with smaller chalets being hired in the area. Really good breakfast and a comfortable lounge. The hostel caters for people of all ages and is a truely interational place, I counted at least half a dozen nationalities there in the breakfast room with me! My only complaint was the brackish shower water, but when you are living on a remote island good water is no doubt of a premium! Well worth a visit
