My husband and I stayed here thanks to a discount voucher. We were in Chablis apartment, and found it to be very functional, as advertised. There was a slightly stale smell in the the apartment when we arrived, and which lingered when we'd come back at the end of the day after the windows were closed all day, but after letting the apartment air out for a few minutes, it seemed to go away.

However where Le Chalet absolutely shines is its location. The view from the bedroom, out over Oneroa Bay, is great. And it's a quick walk into Oneroa village, and even to/from the ferry. If only for the location and it's tidiness, I'd recommend staying here.

We chose Chablis (apartment C) for the privacy. And it was so.

There are many quibbles you could make... the bathroom is tiny and the floor is wet after a shower; the microwave and electric frypan are the only cooking facilities; it is easy to bump your head on the shelves over the sink; the sofa bed is not the most comfortable for lounging on; the stairs to the bedroom could be a challenge for the elderly with a heavy suitcase; the traffic noise from the main road can be a little intrustive... we actually enjoyed it very much.

Why?

The security (we were lent a remote control for the automatic gates, as we had a rental car);
the friendly hosts;
the free wifi;
the Sky TV so that we could watch the All Black live;
the comfortable bed;
the views; and
the handy location.

This visit was via a discount voucher, so I guess you get what you pay for. There are three apartments here and the others were full, so no point requesting a change during our stay.

This Chablis apartment has no stove for cooking (just a Microwave) and a very steep set of stairs to the loft bedroom (with the toilet downstairs), so it is totally unsuited for elderly folk or those with bad knees! The upstairs bed is classed as a King size, when it is actually two singles pushed together and a ridge/gap down the middle. You have to be VERY careful when walking around upstairs not to crack your head on the sloping roof. There is no room to store suitcases and a real pain to drag a suitcase upstairs anyway.

The downstairs couch is a third fold down bed and VERY uncomfortable to sit on.

The bathroom is the worst of all, being very tiny and with the sink, shower and toilet all in a small area, such that having a shower wets everything. With towels not changed in the three days we were there, it made the whole wash process very messy and forgettable. Worse still was the black mould on the bottom of the shower curtain.

Otherwise clean and the hosts were very friendly but I think the other Apartments would need to be better than this one, as this is touted as a luxury stay, which Chablis Apartment certainly wasn't!

We arrived to a howling gale and the louvre flaps on the external part of the exhaust fans to all rooms were chattering and banging, such that I went and bought some tape to fix them shut, or there would have been no sleep with that noise.

Room Tip: Stay away from Apartment 'C'

Dear Guest thank you for your recent comments. I must say we are very very surprised to be given a 'poor rating' and would like to refer future guests to our other positive reviews on trip advisor and indeed the 100% positive verified five star reviews (19 from 19) on our website.
To address some of your issues:
First of all thanks for confirming that the Apartment was clean and that the hosts were friendly. We feel this his alone should have warranted a better rating not to mention our stunning location etc. Most of the points below would not have been an issue if you had taken the time to research the accommodation that you were booking. Our modern, new website has detailed descriptions and many pictures. www.lechalet.co.nz
1. Stairs - Please see what our website says about the Chablis Apartment
"This is a modern fully self contained one bedroom spread over two levels.
The bedroom is located on the second level up a flight of twelve stairs
with a view over Oneroa Bay".
2. Headroom - this is a first - what can I say???
3. Suitcases - there is adequate room upstairs - see 1.
4. Sofa - Again a first - no one has ever had a problem!!!
5. Oven??? See our website description
"The kitchenette has cutlery, crockery, cooking facilities including a
microwave and a fridge freezer" - for the record there is also a double
plug in electric hob. If you had asked we would have advised you of this.
6. Towels - If you had asked we would have gladly given more towels. This
is a self-contained unit - NOT a serviced one - again this is stated on
our website.
7. Wind Noise - it was an exceptionally windy day when you arrived. If you
had mentioned a problem I would have sorted it for you, we have never ever
had a problem with this before.

In summary it seems that this review proves that you cannot please ALL the people ALL the time, some guests have a positive outlook, whilst others seem to focus more on the negative.

We wish you all the best in the future.
Kind Regards
Steve & Heidi Edwards

Tip for you all- take Apartmnet A, views are next to none, and an awesome deck to sit and ponder life, and sample a glass of local wine and olives. The new hosts are only new and I think they will be great very non intrusive. Close to villiage 10 min walk. 5 min to a wee beach for morning walking.

Couple of things a little noise between apartments, also bring a plunger for coffee or a plunger is needed for real rather than instant coffee would be grand. Apartmnet has everything else you may need.

However a wee gem and close to all you will need

Room Tip: Apartment A has the best view, rate reflects,
