Hotel property is in good shape, the room was well maintained and clean. Nice comfortable beds with a pull-out sofa for one of the kids. Don;t forget to check out the coin-operated dragon across the highway when you visit!

We stayed at this hotel while in Vandalia (the middle of no where) for a baseball tournament. The room was very clean and the staff was very polite. The free breakfast was awesome and filled up thirteen 16 year old boys, all of their siblings, and parents.

...you could stay at a great property like this in the middle of Nowhere, Illinois? Clean rooms, friendly staff, and good breakfast offerings.

Room Tip: Get a room on the side opposite the main entrance so the sun doesn't blind you in the morning.

My son and I stayed at this HIE on 15 JUL 2012, traveling back from Oklahoma to Michigan. The hotel is newly constructed, fashioned on a familiar design I have encountered at a number of HIE’s in recent years (e.g, the ones in Zanesville and Terre Haute). I am a Priority Club member. The hotel is well laid-out and efficient. Good points: the lobby and breakfast area (the ‘great room’) are clean and well decorated, as was our room (a double queen bed suite); the room was spacious, and the furniture tasteful and functional. The beds were comfortable. Some not so good points: at the entrance we were greeted by loud raucous music blaring from a loud-speaker; the young woman at check-in was efficient, but brusque, hurried (I don’t know why: we were the only ones at the desk), and officious. She needs some training in customer relations. There is only one elevator despite the fact that this is a good-sized hotel, and it was quirky: in particular, it lurched and dropped (a lot) when it went to open at a floor, especially at the first floor The hotel is near a shopping center, backing up on a gas station and a truck-stop; the locale is not pleasant, and landscaping is minimal. Down-town (where the traditional restaurants are) is two miles away, and the Sunday evening we were there, all the non-chain restaurants we could find were closed. We came back to the freeway and bought a ‘family dinner’ at KFC. There was a Ponderosa Steakhouse close by, but it was packed with local people, and as there was a pretty long wait to be seated, we decided on fast-food. There are other HIE's and other decent hotels close by on this route which deserve consideration over this establishment.

After a long road trip my family and I wanted nothing more than to rest and relax. We have stayed in literally hundreds of holiday inns. We are priority club members and have been for years. I have never been treated so rude at a holiday inn. By more than one person. We just wanted a roll away bed and the women at the desk said " well we can give you one but it's not like it's going to fit!" I asked if they had any upgrades available and she said very snippy" no". We were a family at a hotel not a group of teenagers wanting to party. When we checked out in the morning our service was no better. The woman just looked at us as we checked out. My mom and i could not understand why they were so snippy with us. I would have reported there names but They were mot wearing name tags. We booked at different holiday inn in highland Illinois on our return trip and were much happier.

A very nice surprise and was a great place to stay. This hotel has a great look inside and outside. The business center is next to the lobby in a room by itself. The staff is very nice and friendly and always ready to help. The breakfast was good and the look of the area is nice and clean. I've been to lots of different types of hotels over the years and this hotel is by far one of only a few that you could say is one of a kind and still looks new.

This is a good place to stop for a good night's rest on the way to St. Louis. It is clean and quiet. The pool is nice and larger than many that you find in chain hotels. Although I am not a big fan of shopping at Walmart, there is a big one located within a five-minute walk (across a parking lot) from the hotel.
