“not up to standards”
Reviewed 6 October 2013

We have made quite a few trips to JFires since it has opened. I am sorry to say that the
food preparation is not as inspired as it was in the beginning. We have seen the bread change
to white toasted plain loaf bread, not even bakery style, on top of that you have to ask for bread or its not served. (told to us by the waiter). The salad dressing is not mixed well and
it is overly vinegary, at times uneatable. We have said something about this only to see it happen again on several occasions. The mussels which had such a great broth with Ricard is now just plain chicken
broth and tasteless. No hit of Richard noticeable, we noticed because we order it every time.
The last two times, it was missing. Informed the server something has changed and was told
she would ask Jen, the chef, well we were informed nothing was different.
The meals are sometimes very good, like my husbands prime rib, but
others are over cooked or very messy like the barbecue shrimp, which recipe has changed and
is not near as good as before.
We kept going back hoping that the original food would show up and the service, which can
be spotty, would finally work its self out, but nothing has changed for the better, things are
getting worse.
Sorry, we will miss the good meals we had, can't keep going back to such a mishmash of a
dining experience.
I could go on about this place but it would be useless, we had such high hopes. Wish you well,
Jen, but you need help.

“Awesome Pork Chop”
Reviewed 2 May 2013

Wonderful large smoked pork chop, came with salad and a side and it was wonderful. It was the special for only 10.95. My husband had the prime rib and it was 12 ounces but it was delicious. I have been before and will go again..........if you don't go you will miss out.

“A Nice Surprise in Small Town America”
Reviewed 14 March 2013

What a nice little place to find in Waterloo, IL. During spring or fall sitting outside is a pleasure. They have a nice bar inside and carry lots of wines and different beers. The food is pretty good but the portions are a little small but the dishes are very unique. Last night I had BBQ shrimp which was served with onion rings and it was just delicious. My husband got the flat iron steak and it was very juicy and tasty. The wood fired pizza's are small but just wonderful with all fresh ingredients,

“Unexpected culinary delight!”
Reviewed 29 October 2012

Wait staff was friendly, personable, and very knowledgeable of the menu. Recommended by our hosts - and worth the short drive from the Corner George Inn.

“Lovely outdoor area...”
Reviewed 9 October 2012

Great place to sit outside and enjoy the fall weather. Food is very bistro-like (meaning not large portions) but very good.
