This last weekend we had the pleasure of staying at the Toucan Stay Inn. We stayed in the room known as Hose B...and it was absolutely wonderful! The charismatic, kind and caring hosts...the delicious breakfasts...the entire experience was just fantastic! Thank you again!!! See you next time ;)

My wife and I had booked our holiday in Punta Uva back in April 2011 for Las Palmas Hotel. Upon arrival, which consisted of 10 and a half hours of travel time, we arrived to find out our hotel was no longer there! It had been raised 2 weeks prior by the government. So here we were in the taxi we took for San Jose with no place to stay. By sheer luck, a wonderful Welsh ex-pat named Wendy, happened to be crossing the road and heard our situation. She graciously invited us to check out the place she managed, The Toucan Inn. She had two rooms available and we chose "Jose". Our misfortune could not have taken a better turn. The grounds were beautiful...the rooms were clean. There was air conditioning(which is a must in August). She provided a lovely breakfast each morning and great company during the day and at night. The beach which is about 20k away was stunning, to say the least. When I hear the phrase "Pura Vida" I will always think of the time we spent in Punta Uva and stayed at the Toucan. We HIGHLY recommend!

We started our honeymoon in Punta Uva at the Toucanstay. Our only regret is that we didn't spend more time there, as the beaches, jungle, cuisine, and hospitality that we experienced in Punta Uva and the Inn were unmatched for the remainder of the trip. Thanks Jon, Wendy, and Cristobal!

A few days ago we had stayed 3 nights at the Toucan Stay Inn. My wife and I really enjoyed our stay there. The hosts Wendy and Cristobal catered to our every needs and made our stay most comfortable. We are vegan and Wendy made us vegan meals for breakfast and baked vegan banana bread for us. They had everything you needed to enjoy the area including free internet on their laptop. Beach towels, float, snorkel gear, coolers, boogie boards, and bicycles all for the guests to use. It is a small and intimate place great for couples. There was only one other couple staying there at the same time and we enjoyed there company as well as our hosts. The air conditioning was refreshing and they had a number of DVD's to watch on a rainy day. The property is all fenced in and there is parking for your car behind the locked gate. The beach which is quite nice and clear and great for swimming is a three minute walk from behind the Inn. Most beaches in Costa Rica are rough and therefore not great for visability for snorkeling. However here in Punta Uva the visability on the day I snorkeled was about 50 feet. There were some nice coral and quite the number of fish to see. Nothing like the Florida Keys but but very good for Costa Rica. Lots of wildlife in the area, especially the howler monkeys. Overall a great value and a pleasurable experience.

As you read the many great reviews of ToucanStayInn, believe them all. While it takes a bit to get to Punta Uva, it is truly the perfect place for nature’s beauty and serenity. We stayed in the owners cabin (name only BTW) but visited the other two suites and would be happy to stay in any of them. We had the pleasure of meeting some incredible hosts (Wendy and Cristoobal) that have recently joined ToucanStayInn. For those reading many of the posts, Terry and Terry were past hosts for Jon but now live right next door and are very friendly and sweet as well. This was a surprise 40th Birthday for my wife and Jon (remotely), Wendy, and Cristoobal made the week and the day very special. We asked Wendy to host and join our dinner party along with Cristoobal, Terry, and Terry and had a wonderful evening that lasted to nearly 1200 am. Wendy is so helpful and truly spent days getting our dinner party prepared and pulled together. Note for those driving: It isn’t as hard as people say as long as you follow the signs to the little towns along the way. Trusting highway numbers is sometimes confusing as some are marked and others are not. We reviewed Google Maps and found key landmarks (shell station, pizza hut, Mega Shopping Center, etc…) that made it much easier as we made our way to and from Punta Uva. Regardless, do not stress about driving in Costa Rica. Most of the roads are great and the drivers are typically polite. Summary: It is worth the trip, the drive, and we will remember this vacation as one of our best and plan to return! Big thanks to Jon, Wendy, and Cristoobal! What a wonderful place.

From the moment you enter the gates of The Toucan Stay Inn you're in a tropical paradise! The ambiance is incredible from the moment you arise to the sounds of nature, until the delightful evenings where you relax on a hammock with your favorite cocktail. The location is prime being just a short ride or a nice leisurely walk to fine restaurants, canopy tours & anything else your heart desires. The owners Jon & Mabel are two of the loveliest people I've ever met! They made us feel so comfortable & special from day one. Our accomodations were fantastic! We slept like babies and truly enjoyed just hanging out on the lovely patio with our host & hostess. They even named a cocktail after me The Ready Freddie Rockin Steady! I never looked at my watch the entire week that we were there as I wanted to take it all in & enjoy each & eveery moment.Puerto Viejo is just a short cab ride away where you can catch some great Classic Rock & Reggae bands at the local bars, have an incredible breakfast at Bread & Chocolate & have THe BEST bruchetta & thin crust pizza at Mauricio"s restaurant.I can't wait to return in the near future for another incredible stay at The Toucan Stay inn. Pura vida!!!
