Cantigny is really a hidden gem that provides a beautiful park, interesting historical education, horticultural exposure, a nice gift shop, good food, and wonderful entertainment and educational programs. We routinely attend live concerts in the park and special events such as art fairs and I have toured the museums and found it all to be nicely presented and beautifully maintained by people who seem to care. The price of admission? $10 to park your car!!! Optional membership is reasonable and waives the parking fee if you go a few times a year. I can't imagine that you'd be disappointed.

Decided for all family to meet for a picnic at Cantigny, Robert Mccormick's estate, that was named after the village in France he helped free in WW2. We met on the picnic grounds, where there are ample tables, a playground, and space to play games. We brought our own food, had a great time w 8 families. Played frisbee, chess, sat and talked, then ambled through the gardens. On a Saturday we saw 4 wedding parties there, but it did not feel crowded. There are multiple armored vehicles, an well done war museum, great visitor center, a house you can tour (part of A League of Her Own was filmed on the grounds), a golf course, and several places to eat, in addition to the picnic area. $10 admit fee per car on the weekend, $5 weekdays. So reasonable.

Cantigny is a hidden gem. That is the best way to describe it. The very cheap $5/10 admission fee per car is very cheap considering the quality of the grounds. The beautifully kept gardens are the perfect place to take a stroll marveling at the arrays of flowers and art hidden among the plants. The wide and vast grounds give perfect chances to lay down and absorb the sunlight. The McCormick mansion gives a nice tour and Freedom Hall is nothing less than a marvel. The best part, however, is the first division museum, which houses world-class exhibits about america's first division. The scavenger hunts are also very fun and enrich the experience. All ages love the tanks, which you are freely allowed to climb on and hang from. Overall, the park is amazing, despite the ongoing construction.
