“GREAT STATE PARK”
Reviewed 18 July 2013 via mobile

Absolutely the nicest state park campground. We had a full hookup site. It was easy to maneuver into and a quick hook up. There a plenty of trees in the campground section even though the park is a grassland park. We had bikes and took advantage of the miles of paths to ride. There are various club houses (I assume for rent, but didn't inquire). Getting to the park can be a bit tricky but just follow the website directions or signs off I-65 and its no problem. The staff was extremely friendly. Only issue is, since its a state park, there's no "late" check out. They have a standard Sunday late checkout, but nothing Mon-Sat. We absolutely would stay here again.

“Improving every year - playgrounds, bike paths, hiking trails, and now a water park!”
Reviewed 15 July 2013

I live less than 5 minutes from this State Park and as a life long State Park visitor I can appreciate the work and effort that's gone into this particular one. It's a shame that someone rated this park a 1 (calling it poor) because these things don't pop up overnight to be on par with several other nearby State Parks.

This park has a wonderful paved bike path that runs the entire length of the existing park. There's a nice hiking trail, and the addition of the waterpark offers a welcome relief from the heat during the summer.

As others have said there's an older (working) farm and farmhouse near the entrance that's definitely worth a visit. The campground seems very nice, though I have not personally camped there yet.

The park is expanding to the northeast and should offer a great deal of additional hiking and other attractions when completed (currently there's a deck that offers scenic views of that part of the property - very relaxing). There's a concrete slab near the back of the park that used to be the floor of an older barn, but we have used it several times to teach our kids to ride without training wheels (it's completely separate from the parking area and devoid of cars).

We use the playgrounds almost weekly during the summer, and take the kids bike riding whenever I can get the energy to load up the bikes for 5 (whew!).

I'll admit this state park is not yet at the same level as other nearby parks (Turkey Run, Shades, etc), but it does offer a pleasant place to ride a bike, hike, cool off at the new waterpark, and/or just relax in nature. Since the waterpark is so new, there are still some staffing issues to deal with and perhaps some processes to work out. Still a good value, and so far in our experience it's been very family friendly.

“Summer Bike Riding”
Reviewed 11 July 2013

We live close by this state park and have visited several times. It is a nice addition to the Indiana SP system. We were pleased to see that the DNR is adding a water park and two new trails. We visited in June so neither were quite ready yet. But both will be an awesome addition.

Our main purpose of this visit was to try out our new folding bikes. Prophetstown has a wonderful bike trail that is about 3.5 miles and there are plans to add a couple more miles onto it. We had a splendid time and loved the trail. We stopped for a nice picnic. Since the park is newer, all of the shelters and restrooms are very nice and clean.

We rode through the campground as well. It is coming along, the front part now appears to have some trees and some shade. The trees in the back section are still immature. But again - all very clean and super nice camp sites.

We had a great experience riding our new bikes there and can't wait to come back for another ride and also hike the two new trails when they open later this summer.

“water park”
Reviewed 8 July 2013

The water park was a great addition to an already great State Park. The day we went it had rained in the morning so that coupled with just recently opening there was no lines and the staff was helpful and friendly. I agree they need two lifeguards at the top one for each slide. The campsites are level and surrounded by trees so you had your privacy and conveince with electric and sewer.

“Prophetstown SP Waterpark”
Reviewed 5 July 2013

Visited the beautiful Prophetstown SP waterpark today for the first time. Still some glitches to work out but overall it's a really nice facility in the middle of the prairie. 2 life guards are REALLY needed at the top of the slides for spotting. It's a safety issue. Lazy river gets a little tight at entry/ exit point. Still being landscaped.
