4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 November 2009

I visit Bloomington regularly and have for the past 10 years. While I have tried other, more expensive hotels, they have never offered rooms as quiet or service as consistent. They rooms have recently been remodeled and are fresher and more modern. Not something I care about, but some do. The fitness center is little more than a treadmill, a stairmaster, and an elliptical, but you can get your workout in.

Our second stay at this Hampton Inn was as nice as the last. Welcoming staff, clean, well-kept and accommodating.

The breakfast area is bright and the breakfast is ample. The woman who handles that is quite generous. A donut (from a local bakery?) was wonderful.

The pool looked great though we didn't have a chance to use it. Next time.

This is a great stop for travel, university business and a quiet place to relax.

Hampton is still our choice in Bloomington.

We stayed for one night only during our colleges-touring trip. The hotel is located conveniently close to the IU campus but its driveway can be easily missed. It looks aged from the outside but the insides were reportedly renovated in 2007 (we believe).

The check in was fast and efficient, probably the most impressive feature of our stay.

We found our room (third floor) very small, cramped and claustrophobic, even though clean. The bathroom was a small alcove off to the left and was also crammed, impinging upon the hallway. The ceilings were restored by what appears as a spray-painting with popcorn. There was some mold near the bathtub, ceiling appeared caving at the corner; it was cracked and malaligned. The under-the-window AC unit was louder than what we have seen in other Hamptons. There is an outdoor swimming pool. The internet worked fine and was free. In the morning we found the complimentary breakfast to be more "Best Western" basics than "Hilton" classics. Needless to say, oatmeal, yoghurt, pastry and a greasy sausage pattie was not up to the industry standard. The dining area is small and off the reception /front desk. We paid $145 for a double (incl. tax) which we consider overpriced for what was offered.

Overall, we should have gone (and next time will go) elsehwere. You should also consider an alternative if looking for more space and more cost-effectiveness.

Many hotels nowadays provide free high-speed internet. The problem is you never know what it means by "high-speed". In Hampton Inn, Bloomington, "high-speed" apparently means "faster than 1980's modem". The wireless internet access is free alright but it's really slow compare to what other hotel chains provide.
That said, if you are not a business traveler whom needs high-speed internet access, the Hampton is clean and well-maintained.

  • Liked — Things are ok. Nothing special.
  • Disliked — Low-speed internet, check-in staff (at night).

My husband and I stayed here for business. What a pleasant experience! The staff is very pleasant and helpful, the rooms are clean and attractive, the beds are very comfortable and the continental breakfasts were well above average. This hotel was a more positive experience than some of the "luxury" hotels that we have stayed in.

  • Liked — Comfortable and clean
  • Disliked — Nothing.

My husband and I stayed at the Hampton Inn in Bloomington for two nights over the July 4th weekend without a reservation.

The staff was extremely nice and helpful. When we checked in the woman at the front desk was thoughtful and chose us a room on the top floor facing the IU stadium so we could see the fireworks. The room itself was a King and very nicely furnished and decorated. The bed was very comfortable, as was the sofa. There was a huge flat screen TV and free wireless. Both worked without any problems.

From the front desk to the housekeeping, everyone at the Hampton Inn was very kind and helpful.

The breakfast each morning was very good. There was a large variety of different items, both hot and cold. The business center was not extensive, but allowed us to print off the few documents we needed. We did not use the outdoor pool during our stay, but it looked nice.

The Hampton Inn is located north of the town. It was a quick car ride (~5 minutes) to the Kirkwood area downtown, and close to the football stadium. There isn't too much in walking distance from this hotel, a few restaurants but not too much else.

Overall this was one of the best hotels we have stayed at in quite a while. We both really enjoyed our stay here and would recommend it to anyone.

We made a trip to Bloomington in April, to attend the Little 500 race and festivities. The hotel met our expectations and we were very pleased. It was very busy, but they kept everything clean and calm. The breakfast area was well stocked and personnel were there refilling and cleaning and making it enjoyable. The housecleaning crew was busy and accommodating when we wanted to sleep in, and they still made it a point to clean our room and change our linens, on our time schedule. The front desk accommodated us in every way with answers to our questions, and particular needs, which they met with a smile. There were some obnoxious and loud people in rooms, and the staff asked us the following day if we had been disturbed by these people and to make sure to call them if they disturbed us the following evening. When we did call, they immediately came to our floor and spoke with the people causing the disturbance. Every thing went very well for a wild and crazy college week-end, and the Hampton secured the parking lot and areas to insure that its guests were taken care of and accommodated. Who could ask for more? And, the rooms were clean and nicely decorated and everything was perfect. Our experience here was fantastic!

  • Liked — Cleanliness and friendly. Professional.
  • Disliked — Rowdy guests and price was a little high.
