I stayed at this hotel with my husband. We had written an email 2 months prior to our arrival (after booking) requesting a room on a higher floor and one bed. Upon arrival, the lady at the counter seemed to page though our booking, and we pleasantly saw that our email was attached. She checked us in.

Cons:
1. We did not get any of the things we requested. She completely ignored our email. We had a room on the lower floor and 2 single beds. We went back to inquire and Michael on the front desk assisted us.
2. The pool opens at 11am and closes at 7pm. In summer!
3. The rooms are not great.
4. No coffee making facilities in the room. They want you to buy coffee
5. Very old TV sets in the rooms
6. There is barely a sea view. The hotel is far from the sea.
7. There are several times when we tried to call reception from our room and the phone was not answered

Pros:
1. Michael at reception went out of his way to try to accommodate us, but he cannot fix the hotel
2. There is a free shuttle between the hotel and Syntagma Square downtown
3. The wireless in the room works well
4. Housekeeping was responsive and helpfull whenever we needed an iron and an ironing board

I would not stay at this hotel again.

Dear 1travelor101,

First and foremost we would like to thank you for taking the time to share with us your experience regarding your stay here at the Metropolitan Hotel.

We are pleased to learn that you were satisfied with the free shuttle bus service, the free wifi in the room, the service provided by our Housekeeping department. Your kind comments have already been shared with our employee.

On the other hand we were extremely concerned to learn from you that your room has not been assigned as requested during your stay. Please accept my sincere apologies for the disappointment caused on this occasion. While I would not wish to make any excuses for the lapse in our service standards I would like to assure you that this is not reflective of the normally high standards that are provided at the Metropolitan Hotel. I would be grateful if you could send a separate e-mail to zaglaridou@chandris.gr to have your name and find out what happened.

Also we would like to inform you that coffee and tea making facilities are offered in special room types and also available upon request at the reception however we have taken your comments on board and our reception staff will make sure all customers are informed.
Regarding your comment about old TV sets, there is a plan to review the status of our rooms and act accordingly when needed.

Once again we thank you for your time and we hope you will reconsider and give us a second opportunity to welcome you back in Metropolitan Hotel and prove that we can serve you better.

Yours Sincerely,

We stayed 3 nights at the Metropolitan on 2 separate stays. The rooms were clean and everything worked great. As far as its claim of a 5 star hotel, this is not one, it is outdated and is comparable to a Motel 8 in Canada. The location is good, it is not close to any attractions in Athens, but is central from the port and Syntagma Square and they offer a free every hour until 9pm to the Square. The main issues were the beds and the in hotel prices. The bed were very hard and on 2 of the nights were just 2 singles pushed together. The Avenue restaurant on the main floor is overpriced and the breakfast is not worth the 20€. The in room minibar pricy as well. We were overall disappointed with the experience.

Good hotel, out of the city centre, still good eateries nearby, within walking distance. A little dated, but food and people were good.
Would love tea and coffee making facilities in the room, my only criticism. Enjoyed rooftop pool and the 360 degree view

The hotel itself was nice but it was not near the city center. Between the hotel and city center was nothing but sex shops and tatoo parlors once you get a few blocks from the hotel. The hotel provides a shuttle to Syntagma square but if you are there on a weekend (like I was both times) the shuttles are few and they stop completely at 4:00 so you will need to take cabs for dinner unless you eat at the hotel or close by. Many tour groups use the hotel so if you're on a tour you'll wind up there. If you aren't on a tour stay closer to the city.

Dear Phyllis011,

First and foremost we would like to thank you for taking the time to write your experience regarding your stay here at the Metropolitan Hotel.

The location of the hotel is indeed a few miles from the centre of town but we do offer a complimentary shuttle service to and from the centre of Athens. Similarly within walking proximity of the hotel there are a number of shops, supermarket, pharmacy and restaurants. Also there are lovely sea side restaurants on walking distance.

Once again we would like to thank you for your time and we look forward to the pleasure of welcoming you again to the Metropolitan on your next trip to Athens.

Pretty average

Stayed here recently, my company put me here, not the best choice but relatively convenient for the centre of Athens. Rooms are dated, area is quite noisy, lots of tourists mainly from China / Korea. This is not a hotel I would stay in again out of choice, but I would personally not stay anywhere near the centre other than at the Grand Britain hotel which is the best hotel in the centre of Athens by far. If you are on a budget guess this is the place to stay, personally not a hotel that I would spend my own money to stay.

Very good Hotel, nice room Internet free, nice breakfast, the only issue is that is too far away from the down town but they put an internal "free of charge shuttle" but the don't tell you anithing about this and if you require a taxi to go to the downtown you paid that and they not tell you anyhing about the shuttle. The last one back to the Hotel is 21:00.(too early)
Very good experience.
