We traveled to Indiana to visit my daughter and her new husband who live in southern Indiana. We all took a trip up north to visit the Indiana Sand Dune National Park. The railhouse was an excellent location to the Dunes. Since we booked both upper and lower rooms we had the entire place to ourselves. It was practically like being home. After spending the previous four nights in a hotel room it was a welcome relief. Yes, the trains do go by frequently and noisily but it actually added to the charm of the place.

Booked a 2 night stay in the upper berth room. Clean & comfy room with 1 King Size Bed, 1 Sofa Bed & a smaller child type bed. Flat Screen TV. Shower gel / Shampoo / Conditioner provided by inn in it's own unit inside the shower. They even provide a bottle of air fresherner in the bathroom. Breakfast was superb with fresh fruit, eggs, french toast, yogurt & granola. They do have a Keruig machine available for guest use on the 1st floor as well. Rich & his wife were friendly hosts & their dogs as well.

For the railfan, this is the spot to be if you're interested in Railfanning the eastern side of the Chicagoland area. 1st off - you don't even have to leave you're room for great Norfolk Southern & CP Rail action. But just down the street about 5 min's away is Porter Junction - Amtrak only line & CSX Line all meet. The South Shore Interurban is only 5-10 mins away - essentially you could drive to the South Shore line & take the train into Chicago for a day of sightseeing as well. Back at the inn, the railhouse is located in between 2 grade crossings. Loud K5LA horn's on the NS units. Music to a railfan's ears. Amtrak's Lake Shore Limited & Capitol Limited can be seen from you're room. The Upper Berth would be prefered for the railfans as it provides you're own private outdoor deck to the rail action.

I hope to return someday when I get out to the midwest again.

Room Tip: Upper Berth Room provides a excellent view of the railroad.

We stayed here on a recent trip back to Chesterton to visit family. My wife and I were a bit reluctant to stay at a B&B with a 14 month old, but Rich and Ann Marie (and dogs Jackson and Chloe) were welcoming all of us. The Riley's have done an excellent job with this B&B. The rooms and lounge area are comfortable, and very interesting. Not to mention, Richard's breakfasts were great, too. The lounge area was perfect for my family's after Christmas gathering. Having grown up in Chesterton, I am happy to see that this historic building is in such great care, and being shared with all.

This is an awesome B&B right in downtown Chesterton. Food, hospitality, and ambiance are all excellent. Unique and quaint with two adorable dogs to keep you company. You will feel right at home as long as you don't mind the trains that go by once in awhile.

Very kid friendly, fabulous breakfast, and excellent hospitality. The bed and breakfast is close to the beach and restaurants within walking distance.

The decor is so cute and interesting-- all trains.
