“waterbird was disspointing”
Reviewed 2 July 2012

I just recently stayed at the hotel/inn and chose it because from the website it looked to be a decent establishment. The pictures made it look well kept and a relaxing place. When we got there mid afternoon we found out that they were doing renovations which were not mentioned on the website inside and the pavement being refinished which meant we had to park in the walgreens parking lot. The outside was some what decent. Upon entering the Inn we were greeted with a sign on the guest check in that said for service look behind you and answer the black phone, it rang 20 times before someone said they would be right there. It took us 30 minutes to check in because they had to make sure they put us in a room that they didnt have to switch us in mid stay. Now at any hotel/inn there should always be someone at the front desk in case of emergencies.... When we finally were able to get to our room we walked down a couple halls which had damaged wall tiles and stains and a faint smell to the whole place. They tried to i guess remove the smell with a candle that was always lit and never attended too. several rooms had construction going on and we could clearly see into them and mattresses were piled in the hallway. We got to our room where we found the room to be bigger then most suites but there was no fridge or microwave. For the price and size of room i would have thought it would have come with those. there was a balcony that i was slightly nervous to go on because of what i had just walked through, it looked old and there were spider webs every where, it had clearly not been cleaned in a long time. The bed was the only thing i would say was good. It was comfortable thats it. the sheets where the wrong size so the fit sheet was always coming off, carpet was old, the bathroom vanity was recently redone and it was sub pare. You could see where the old one was and all the pipes were exposed and a recent leak left a stain under the sink. there was not enough light in the room either. one can light by the bathroom and 3 lamps scattered through out. Now as for entering the hotel, you had 4 entrances, 3 side and the main. our first 2 keys would not open any of the side doors, we asked for another and they opened the middle door only. we were the last room at the back and the last door is where we should have entered. We asked about the continental breakfast the next morning and we were told it was next door at the best western.... As for our checkout i had a 8 am flight and we had to leave by 5am so we could get me to the airport. We told them at checkout that we were checking out at 5am. My boyfriend gathers our stuff and puts some stuff in the car. Now he tries to get back in the door and none of them work and the Main entrance is locked and no one on staff is there luckily i was still up stairs and i could let him back in. We get me situated on the plane and he heads back to the hotel to pay and the front desk was very rude to him when he asked why no one was here and we told you we had a 5am flight meaning if you knew we were leaving you could have given us a bill the day before and we would have paid. Needless to say this Hotel/INN was highly disappointing, and this was supposed to be a relaxing vacation away from the stresses of our lives.

It was so relaxing. My boyfriend and I needed a place to stay that was half way between where we both lived. Being apart in a relationship is tuff but being able to see each other and to stay at a place like WaterBird with the beautiful view makes it a lot easier. The room was very clean and the bed was extremly comfortable. The view was really pretty expecially in the evenings when the sun went down. The hottub was really relaxing with the soft tunes they had playing in the background. Also the fruit in the mornings was amazing very fresh. The hotel was very quiet which was really nice compared to most hotels when you can hear everyone that passes by your door. We had a great time and the staff was extremly nice. We would def stay again.

Nice room with a king bed and jacuzzi. Balcony has a beautiful view of a small lake that comes right up to inn. Comfortable bed with numerous pillows. Coffee maker in room, but no micro or fridge. Croissants, fruit, and juice were delivered to the room between 9 AM and 9:30 AM. A nice touch. If you need a larger meal, there are many restaurants within walking distance. Only negative was that there were many trains (and their noise) close by. That being said, we will be back. It was worth the $139 (Autumn price).

Room Tip: All the rooms have a lake view. We turned out the lights and opened the curtains to have our lake v...

My husband and I went to the Lakeside Inn and Resort for our 33 anniversary. We checked in to a small but relatively nice lobby. That's where the NICE stopped! The walls in the hallway to our room were not just knicked but huge cracks and peeling paint. Our room looked OK when we entered but not the quality expected for the most expensive room in the hotel. There were cracks in many parts of the room's walls and the ceiling in the bathroom was cracked and peeling over the tub. I went to put my purse on top of the entertainment center and something scraped! It was a beer bottle top! My husband uses a breathing machine and he went to plug it in by the bed. Behind and under the bed was much dust and confetti! Someone had partied hard in this room! We had asked for a mini-frig in the room for my insulin and it was not there. We called the front desk and they did bring it to the room. Unfortunately, we were getting ready to go to the pool and changing our clothes. The man and woman who brought the frig knocked but before we could get to the door, they entered with the frig. I was behind the wall, but my husband was in the bathroom changing! Talk about breech of privacy! No apologies either! We went to the pool and it's a joke. With 21 or so rooms in the hotel, that pool could maybe accomodate 6 adults if they just stood there! We went out onto the deck outside the pool area and had to come right back in as the smell of rotting vegetation was nauseating! We went back to our room to watch some TV. The love seat is only 2 feet from the TV making it hard on the eyes! Although the room did have a fireplace, it is stuck in the corner of the room next to the AC unit and not near a sitting area, the jacuzzi, or the bed. Not very romantic! OK, lets go out onto the porch/deck and watch the lake. It was covered with cobwebs, the chairs were dirty, the AC unit from the floor above was dripping onto our unit and splattering us as we stood there! The pond was filled with green "scum" and smelled. Not at all the picture on the website. Even if the chairs had been clean, if we had sat in them, they were so low that the railing would have blocked our total view! Lets go on a walk on the "trail/path" surrounding the lake. Sorry, it was so overgrown, we couldn't tell where it was! We got thirsty, so we went for ice and pop in the machine down the hall. Oops, no drink machine (space was empty). So far our anniversary room was a bust! We went to town to see a movie. Sleeping was almost impossible as the bed was so soft that we kept rolling to the middle all night. Being diabetic, I needed to eat before 9:30 am but the breakfast was a joke. The Super 8 has better breakfast at 1/2 the price! 2 small juices, 2 small muffins, and a small plate of fruit to share between 2 people is ludicrous for 2 adults. We ended up having to go down the road to the Round the Clock restaurant for a decent meal. Needless to say, we will NEVER stay at the Lakeside Inn again and will warn everyone we know to do the same! For $166 a night, I could have stayed at a luxury hotel in Chicago. I complained to the staff at the desk upon checkout (the manager was conveniently not there) and she was to relay all the complaints but it's now 3 days later and I haven't heard a word! I've also left 6 messages for the manager to call and so far nothing. Not only do they not care after they've had your money but obviously don't care about their reputation!

The hotel was clean and nice. The staff was helpful and gave us great suggestions as to what we should see and do in Chestertown. We will be back for our wedding reception for sure! They have a beautiful area, that is easy to get to and close to the Dunes.

One of the nicest parts of our stay was that they brough us fruit and a muffin for breakfast in the morning. The view from our room was beautiful, overlooking a small lake. We would highly reccomend this hotel and spa.

Spa and hotel were very clean and well maintained. Even though the spa was booked, we hardly saw/heard anyone-the owners have planned the space well for minimal noise and maximum privacy. The water features included a dry sauna, salt water hot tub and cold plunge tub-no steam or swimming pool, though. The staff was very professional and welcoming. This was a very affordable way to relax with friends. Will definitely return!
