“A very enjoyable Bed & Bed Experience hosted with charm”
Reviewed 22 July 2014

Such a historic home and super impressive family compound. The Irwin home carries significant local history and as a B&B offers visitors a rare view of the quiet, elegant life beyond the stately perimeter walls.
We so enjoyed the treasures which are on display inside the home, and the beautiful 1910 gardens using hardscape elements from a garden in Pompeii, Italy. The Spring to late Fall window is the prime season to enjoy the full property for sure. I am sure the special Christmas decor would be a delight as well. As the hosts noted, the property is in a multiple-year restoration and the gardens, although beautiful, have a list of ongoing improvements that will make the space more impressive and a priceless part of the experience. We loved the historic nature of the accommodations. The rooms were super comfortable and the bathrooms were historically impressive. Of course, for travelers who become dependent on modern shower comforts, ergonomic design and the most modern, grand bathrooms, this historic home is not that place. But they remain very functional, in stellar condition and must have been super impressive at the time they were constructed.
The location of this fine estate is a short, very pleasant 5 min. walk to a dozen restaurant options and at least a day's worth of sightseeing in the downtown area. We particularly enjoyed the quiet morning time to enjoy the sights before the locals are moving. The famous architecture and streetscapes we found entertaining and so accessible.
The best part of our experience was actually the staff. Warm, well educated and super respectful of your time. We were full of questions but they were the right dose of very helpful. We so appreciated their careful and wonderful breakfasts, the housekeeping always being done without interference, and the confidence they offered that our stay would continue to be a delight the entire time.
We would stay here again with no hesitation.

Room Tip: Didn't find a single room we would avoid. Let the hosts help you decide...they know their prope...

My wife and I stayed here for two nights on a weekend getaway trip for our anniversary. The home and gardens are absolutely stunning and peaceful. The home is incredible condition and the rooms are spacious, comfortable and very clean. The woodwork and detailing in the architecture of the home make it so unique. We enjoyed a lot of time out on the terrace and gardens drinking wine and enjoying the view and sounds of the numerous fountains. The Innkeeper was very friendly and helpful and the daily breakfast was wonderful. It is centrally located downtown near all of the restaurants, library and architecture tours at the visitor center. Would highly recommend this B&B!

From the moment we entered the front iron gate, the stately mid-1800s home (mansion) took us back in time. Each room with its magnificent burl wood interior architecture had its own treasures to share. My favorite was the library. Stayed in the Erwin & Xenia Miller 2BR suite with wonderfully comfortable beds and modern conveniences but with appropriately old decor and fixtures. We ate dinner on the terrace overlooking the colorful and beautifully landscaped gardens. (We had purchased our meal at an uptown deli - an easy walk from the Inn.) Breakfast was delicious and the friendly staff made us feel at home - and like royalty. Highly recommend!

If you're in Columbus to take the architectural tours, you need to stay either here or the Hotel Indigo (or both, if you're in town 2 nights). The B&B is an architectural gem itself; the gardens are particularly lovely in spring. The rooms are very spacious although our bath was quite small and the shower gave us a faceful of cold water in the morning (which, I suppose, is better than a faceful of hot water). Like many old buildings, this one creaks everywhere you walk, so you may hear other guests moving about. But the type of clientele it attracts aren't likely to be the party-all-night sort. We enjoyed a glass of wine out in the garden in late afternoon. The breakfast, a salmon and egg dish, was quite nice, and we appreciated that the dining room had tables for two as well as a large table; we much prefer to sit by ourselves rather than be forced to socialize with other travelers early in the morning (as many B&Bs do). Within easy walking distance of downtown restaurants and right next to the Columbus Visitors Bureau.

Went hiking in Brown County and stayed at this Bed and Breakfast the next town over. Beautiful home. Even though it was early Spring and not much was in bloom, the gardens were lovely. Everything was clean and the mattress was VERY comfortable. Our Hostess was very welcoming and accomidating and the food was excellent. I would go again if in the area.

Room Tip: The Bachelor Suite was the whole third floor so offered more privacy.

We stayed at the Inn for our first anniversary, and what a perfect spot! You feel like the really own the place during your time there. As soon as we walked in we were treated to a tour of the home and told we could wander as we pleased, as when we got to the exquisite library we were told we could read any of the books we like - books that I believe belonged to the original owners. We were also shown the other bedrooms, since no one was staying in them at the time. We ended the tour at our 3rd floor room - the W.G. Irwin Bachelor's Suite. This is the only room on that level, so we had the entire floor to ourselves.

I was so impressed with not only the room, but the amenities - a mini Keurig along with a great variety of coffee & tea, TV with DVD player, luxurious bathrobes, a sound dock so we could fill the room with music from our iPhone, a selection of books and magazines in our room, and generous toiletries including a sewing kit. We were only there for one day, so my only regret was not having enough time to experience the home as I would have liked. What an absolutely gorgeous inn, full of modern luxuries and hospitality!

We stayed at the Inn in the J.I. and Xenia Miller Suite for 4 days and it was wonderful! We found all of the comforts from home that we needed. The hospitality of the staff was overwhelming. The gardens were kept up beautifully as well. Some of the standouts were: wine hour at 5pm everyday. It was nice to grab a glass of wine and stroll through the garden, relax in the living room or sit in the gardens while listening to the fountains and birds. Breakfast was always on time, hot and fresh. Our favorite was the bananas foster french toast! Breakfast was served with coffee, water and juice. Each room was also equipped with a keurig coffee maker with plenty of beverage options, which was nice. Tea was available 24 hours a day in the tea room. Snacks and beverages were available 24 hours a day as well. The house was very clean and in fantastic shape with a lot of the original furnishings still in place. There are historic photos of the home throughout the house, which were fun to look at. It was like stepping back in time….with wifi. Overall, the staff was fantastic. Sarah, the main house manager was truly amazing. She made us feel right at home. I would highly recommend this to any of our friends. A real gem! If you go, be sure to catch some of the architecture tours at the visitor center just a block away. The staff can help you decide what tours are best and can recommend restaurants around town.
