“A Southern Indiana Classic”
Reviewed 29 September 2011

I come here every few years for business and/or pleasure. The place had a HUGE overhaul a few years ago when they added the casino & event center. Overall it appears to be upgraded. I don't gamble so the casino does not interest me. New trails added very nice and great tennis and golf facilities. Unfortunately when they renovated they lost a lot of the turn of the century charm. They moved and replaced a great outdoor pool area that has lost most of its charm and they cut down alot of trees which makes the place feel exposed. Room was nice but small also had old style TV. Stay away from the steak house in the hotel. High prices bad service and mediocre food. Oh yeah, my cell phone is a Sprint and I had no cell phone service at all. But the people with iphones had no problem. Overall, still worth the visit.

Room Tip: Don't let them put you on the first floor. Ask for a room overlooking the garden area.

My son and I stayed at French Lick~amazing history was fun to read about, the grounds beautiful~we went horsback riding~saw lots of deer and turtles~had breakfast at West Baden Hotel~WOW! next time we'll stay there~our waiter, Derek, was fantastic. The area is for people looking to relax~the hills in the area are beautiful~would love to see it when the colors are changing.

I just returned from a 3 day convention at the French Lick Resort and Casino. This is a neat place for relaxation away from the hussle and bussle. If you like to be constantly on the go, this place is not for you. If you like to read a good book during the day, walk peaceful grounds, golf or sit on a rocking chair on the veranda, this is your place. Skip the casino and eat 1 nice and pricey dinner at the West Baden Resort down the street (a sister spa and resort 4 blocks away). If you've had it at work, tired of family problems, sick of the rat race, then go here. But dont expect to be constantly entertained or be given a cruise ship mentality of constant fun. This place is to relax. Even the music playing in the hallways reminds me of the movie, "One Flew Over the Cuckoo Nest".

located in southern Indiana, 45 minutes from Louisville, this grand hotel has been reinvented with the addition of a casino. Having visited there for years with our children, we were apprehensive, but found the place updated, family oriented activities while offering casino activities for others. indoor pool, sponsored activities for the kids, casual and fine dining. A great water park has been added just down the street, walking distance. trolley transportation to nearby West Baden, a high end historic building and hotel, and up to the Hill golf course and restaurant. We'll be going back!

Room Tip: Rooms have al been renovated so you can't go wrong. Beautifully redone bathrooms.

This is a wonderful old hotel that has been modernized and renovated. The rooms are very nice, and the lobby and public areas are a step back in time. There are walking trails, golf courses, and a casino to keep you busy. A very nice place for a weekend getaway. I atended a conference there, and the conference space is very nice also.

We just returned from the French Lick Resort and Casino in French Lick, IN. Let me just say, WOW! It appears that the town of French Lick is undergoing a transformation of sorts....new streets, street lights, etc., so as we entered the town, we were a little concerned that our entire weekend would be spent listening to construction equipment. We were completely wrong.

As you get to the middle of town, the French Lick Resort and Casino is easily located as it encompasses the entire hillside. It is beautiful and regal and just as the website showed it to be. Arrival was easy..you can self-park (close to the hotel) or you can use the valet service. We self parked and walked literally across a small drive to the hotel. We checked in early with no problems and found our room with ease. Please note the hotel is HUGE and has several wings so make sure the front desk tells you which wing you are in or you will wander around lost.

Our room was easily located, was very well appointed and extremely clean. We had a king room in the Garden Wing, which is closest to the Casino and overlooking the garden. The living room was separated from the bedroom by a bathroom. The bed was very comfortable and the room was very well decorated. Did I mention it was C-L-E-A-N!!!

Overall, the hotel was elegant and definitely reminded us of something from The Great Gatsby. You could tell that much effort was put into their recent remodeling. Make sure you take some time to sit on the veranda and enjoy the fresh air....although you have to look for an area where no one is smoking as it gets pretty smelly. That is something they should work on....no smoking on the veranda....it is covered on holds in the smoke. Ick! Other than that, make sure to take time to walk the grounds as it is expansive and there is no way to see or do everything in a weekend.

The staff we encountered could not have been nicer or more helpful. Each and every person we encountered said, "Hello" and asked how our day was going. I have never experienced that kind of pleasantries at any other hotel where we have stayed.

DO NOT miss this hotel!

Room Tip: If you are going to the Casino, get a room in the Garden Wing!

If you have never been anywhere...this will do for a little exposure. It's OK, probably the best feature was the drive from about Shoals, Indiana on over. Takes about a 1/2 hour to get there and the drive is lovely. Beyond that? There is a Casino filled with the elderly and the down and out playing a guzillion 1 and 2 CENT slot machines. Virtually 90% of the machines on the main floor are penny slots up to 5 cents. The "High Roller" area will actually feature $1 machines and up! I recommend hitting the "High Roller" area...the machines are pretty loose since no one plays them! Food was so so...rooms are OK. Like I said...if you have never been anywhere...it will do for a weekend. Just average in my opinion.

Room Tip: Upgrade to a better room.
