three grandmas; a little history, easy walking, fun entertainment, impressive salon, good food, and those wonderful front porch chairs for sipping sweet tea. Makes for a great weekend get-away. Sharon G, Bloomington, Indiana

I spent two nights here at a business meeting. prior to arriving here, I did not know what to expect. The hotel has been beautifully restored, as have been the grounds. There are many activities for children and the pool area is very nice. there are many restaurants and shops, which have some items that you may not find very often. The hotel has a true feeling of days gone by. The rooms are small, but comfortable. There are golf courses nearby as well as a casino, with live dealers, rare in Indiana.

My husband and I debated for a long time what rating we would give this place. First off, let me clarify that the picture of the dome is NOT part of the French Lick Hotel, but rather of the West Baden hotel next door.

The hotel represents itself in a classy way, nice sized rooms, comfortable bed, great internet, staff was overall friendly. I wish that the hotel would have better ventilation, generally it was a bit stuffy, but that my be just my hangup.

The food at the hotel was the reason for not giving more stars. What we absolutely cannot not comprehend is how such a relatively expensive hotel could have such poor quality food. We stayed at this hotel as part of a larger group and as such had a catered dinner both evenings at the cost of $60/person per night (Did NOT include alcohol). The meals we were served were not worth the cost and quite frankly not worthy of a hotel that caters to an upscale crowd. Breakfast in the mornings was also nothing to write home about (Think Denny's but more expensive).

Although we liked the rooms, it makes no sense for us to stay at a hotel that charges $200 upward per night and cannot deliver a decent meal. This is especially a problem since there really are not many dining options around the hotel. Given that quality of food is important to us, we will not be retuning to French Lick anytime soon.

Incredible place that takes you back in time. It is easily the best resort in Indiana. With a fabulous golf course, casino, and plenty of activities in the area, its a great way to truly relax. Food was good, room service was great, and the rooms are very nice!

This trip was my third time back to the hotel and area and had been lookin forward to it for a couple of months. Although it was a business trip to attend a conference, my husband traveled with me making it a mini getaway. I have yet to be disappointed by the upscale accomodations, friendly staff, quick service, and good food. Unfortunately we didn't get to eat at the 1875 Steakhouse this time as I was really looking forward to the Lobster Macaroni and Cheese, but we did try out the Power Plant Bar for drinks and sandwiches. We took the shuttle over to Hagens Restaraunt and then to West Baden. We didn't have to wait long for the shuttles and the drivers were very curteous. I'm looking forward to future visits and to taking advantage of other offerings.

This is a nice older, restored hotel. Great place to get away and relax. Went last year with my mother-in-law and just stayed for a girls trip. LOTS of things to do on-site. The casino is nice and I felt comfortable venturing away from the slots to play table games (blackjack, roulette and craps). Spa is incredible -Sally is awesome for the hot stone massage and the Hungarian facial was also nice. Played good, tough resort golf at the Donald Ross course. Beautifully maintained. Even if you can't play the Pete dye course, it is worth the look. Beautiful. Off resort visit French lick winery and the antique gallery. Always great wine and food. Take cold bottles back to the hotel and ask for a fridge to keep it cold. Love the French lick white. Cayuga white and Catawba! Take a bottle to enjoy at the hot tub! Plan to return with the hubby.

French Lick Resort offers so much to do!!! However, please note that it IS expensive. There are a lot of steps to the lobby, but there is also an elevator from the parking lot level up...which was good for us as my husband has trouble walking a lot. Valets there are FANTASTIC! They parked our car, stored our golf clubs and took our luggage to our room. They also would either take your clubs to the course you wanted to play so they were there when you arrived, or would have them on the cart to take with you when they drove you to the course. They were definitely there to please! The entire staff at the resort was very friendly and helpful.

Zack, one of the Valets, took us out in the cart and gave us an extensive history of the grounds. He also gave us a tour of the hotel from top to bottom and out in the garden ... all the time pointing out interesting facts and showing us the fabulous designs. Zack was wonderful!

The Carriage ride is highly overpriced....basically we got a tour of the parking lot and not much history. The bowling alleys in the lower level were vacant, so we had the whole game room and alleys to ourselves. The alleys were very nice and we got to eat pizza at our lanes. Pluto's Pizzaria was very nice and the operator was more than accommodating. bowling was only $5/game and $2 for shoes. We played pool for $1.00/game - use quarters in the tables.

We didn't play golf because we really didn't have the time and it was more expensive than what we were willing to pay. The Pete Dye course is very expensive ... we were told $385/pp 18 holes; the Donald Ross course is $90/pp 18 holes and the Valley Links course was $25/pp 9 holes. There is also basketball, tennis and swimming and other activites that we didn't get to. There is so much to do at this resort!

The architecture is awesome! Painted murals ON THE CEILING, very large marble pillars throughout, hallways large enough to drive a car through (REALLY), ornate decorations, a beautiful veranda complete with rocking chairs and wicker furniture are just some of the things that wow'd us.

We got a King Leisure room. It was HUGE! It was a handicapped room (although I don't remember reserving a handicapped room). There was a ramp to the bathroom with beautiful white railing along side. We had a sleeper sofa and a king bed. The bed was extremely comfortable! The bed seemed to hug you, but not strangle you. The TV was a flat screen, but seemed a little small for the room. There was also a safe in the closet. The bathroom had a HUGE walk-in shower with seat (handicapped). The vanity seemed small, but the whole room was very large.

Cons about the room: the windows opened onto the roof. Not a good view at all. AND someone was pounding on something on the roof next door the next morning, but it only lasted a couple minutes. The AC was very difficult to control. It wasn't a digital thermometer and it was located directly behind the tv. I couldn't see the marks to know how cool I setting and I think the heat from the tv didn't help. The AC vent was above the tv located at the top of the wall, so the air was directed onto the sofa across the room.

We ate at The Power Plant (lower level) for dinner one night and Hagins (off the property - get there by shuttle) another. Hagins is expensive, but good. I was more impressed with The Power Plant. It's a small bar & grill. Their quesadillas are AWESOME and the prices reasonable. We got room service for breakfast. I don NOT recommend doing that - the food was totally cold and very expensive. Not only do you pay more for the food, but a delivery fee of $2.50 + 15% gratuity is added. Not worth it.

We have Sprint phones and there was absolutely NO service. Some people were talking on their cell phones, so I assume they had either AT&T or Verizon. We did have internet service through their unsecured site.

All-in-all: I highly recommend this resort for a very relaxing and wonderful vacation!

Room Tip: When you make your reservations, be sure to ask for a room with some kind of view - the roof view is...
