We had a wonderful visit to the IMA at the beginning of August. It is incredibly well curated, with a broad range of art on display, and the special Neo-Impressionist exhibit was very well done. I was particularly impressed with their modern art collection, which surprised me. I'm not a fan of modern art, but their collection was wonderful!

The price is right (free!), and the special exhibit's are incredibly reasonable. It's definitely worth a visit!

Let's start by saying that Indianapolis is a small city, so you wouldn't expect this kind of museum here. But hey, it's got all you would expect in a larger place. If modern art is something you like, just spending sometime in front of the Love sign by Robert Indiana or the Robert Indiana's numbers is worth the visit. Also, there's a great collection of contemporary and modern art and the temporary collections are usually great.
Having lunch at the cafeteria is also part of the experience as well as taking some time to visit the Lilly house. Feel like a picnic? You can have one also!

We found IMA on tripadvisor and were encouraged by all of the great reviews. Even that did not prepare us for this wonderful experience. We spent about 2 1/2 hours exploring and saw maybe half of the exhibits. The grounds themselves are beautiful, and there is another great piece of art everywhere you look. The museum is fantastic. One tip, if you have small children, be careful in the contemporary art section. The art is really, really tempting for little hands to touch (grown up hands, too!) but you are not allowed to touch it, of course. The 100 Acres offers benches and swings and things to touch, along with plenty of room to run and play.

The featured Neo-Impressionism exhibit was mounted extremely well, and the permanent exhibit was also very well done. It is not a huge museum-but a very enjoyable one. We ran out of time so missed the Asian wing and really rushed through the outside sculpture garden.
The cafeteria was reasonably priced and the food was great.

The permanent exhibit is free, but the featured exhibit had a fee.

This is must see if visiting Indianapolis. It's free, so that makes it great for families. The gardens on the property are just beautiful, and the artwork collection is good too. Again, it costs nothing, so this is a good stop.
