A first rate museum with extensive exhibits ( and its FREE) that include acres upon acres of walking trails, fountains, modern and turn of the century/ art deco era art on the grounds of the Lilly mansion ( also FREE) There are multiple parking areas as you meander down the roads of the grounds, and only one has a parking fee $5 -- but the rest are free and you are still close to everything. the Greenhouse gift shop and garden are also beautiful and the staff there will answer any question you might have regarding your own plants/ gardening. Many plants for sale-- much better than big box garden centers! Even if you do not tour the museum or mansion, it would be a wonderful trip just to walk, see the garden spots, view the fountains, streams and outside artwork. Many come to jog or walk their pets. It was a very peaceful and beautiful location, tucked just behind busy streets. A great almost hidden gem

As a family we come here year after year. The grounds are so well manicured and plenty of walking adventure to keep u going. Take a picnic basket and blanket to enjoy the nature and beauty- just relax. They have a onsite store were u can buy plants, love the exotic selections. This is an escape from the everyday, and wonderful place to meditate.

We had a wonderful visit to the IMA at the beginning of August. It is incredibly well curated, with a broad range of art on display, and the special Neo-Impressionist exhibit was very well done. I was particularly impressed with their modern art collection, which surprised me. I'm not a fan of modern art, but their collection was wonderful!

The price is right (free!), and the special exhibit's are incredibly reasonable. It's definitely worth a visit!

Let's start by saying that Indianapolis is a small city, so you wouldn't expect this kind of museum here. But hey, it's got all you would expect in a larger place. If modern art is something you like, just spending sometime in front of the Love sign by Robert Indiana or the Robert Indiana's numbers is worth the visit. Also, there's a great collection of contemporary and modern art and the temporary collections are usually great.
Having lunch at the cafeteria is also part of the experience as well as taking some time to visit the Lilly house. Feel like a picnic? You can have one also!
