While visiting Indianapolis for the first time this past weekend, we almost forgot to visit this fabulous little spot just a short walk from where we were staying. Thank goodness we didn't forget! What a GREAT spot. This is the real deal and actually has all the warmth, family, down home goodness that most restaurants try to fake. From the moment we walked in we saw families and couples smiling, talking, and enjoying the food. This place knows food, and Southern food, and needs to be featured on Triple D on the food network! We started with the free sample of corncakes with peach butter, and that was enough to convince us it was all going to be good comfort food, so we decided to split an order of the chicken and waffles (we went for sweet potato, and they were great) and the blackened catfish sandwich. Both were fantastic, with both the chicken and fish being simply but perfectly seasoned and cooked. Not spicy hot, but just good flavor that makes your taste buds wake up! As a side, we got the mac n cheese, and we now know a place that uses more cheese than our Southern relatives. We didn't think it was possible. Might be too much for some, but we loved it! Oh, and the other reviews are correct; just TRY to get halfway through your sweet tea before they fill it up; I don't think it's possible! Easily the most unique and best atmosphere of any place we went for food in Indy, and the food was fantastic! If you want some good food you get to eat with your fingers, this is the place! Did I mention price was good too????
