Recently stayed and had a delightiful experience. This private club has opened sleeping and dining rooms to the public. There are "new" rooms on some floors. These are totally renovated and air coniditoned, but with lousy views. The old rooms are in the front with a great view of the monument. My wife requested an airconiditoned room for us. We paid $139, which I thought was a great rate for a room of this quality. The shower is enormous, about 6' x 4.5', or the size of my first cruise cabin. Bedding was fine, public rooms, dining, and bar were stunning, and the food (we ate breakfast only) was fine (but not great). The two different room styles and ages will explain a lot of the different opinions on this place. The staff is not quote used to the transition from a pricate club to a hotel, yet, I think; and this can explain some of the problems encountered by others. My only complaint is the red-roof-inn quality fo the towels.
