Had 4 different entrees on a recent trip with the family. Every one was horrible - not poor in taste, but horrible. Got some bruschetta - it looked like tomato paste was just put on bread with some mozarella on top. Bland, boring, no taste!

The restaurant does have a quaint feel. It is getting old and really is looking in need of some changes, so the quaint feel is going away. But it could still be a good place to go if they made some dramatic improvements in the food taste. We all decided after leaving that this was a 1-trip visit and we have no desire whatsoever to return unless we hear the food has changed dramatically. And the worst part is, it was not that cheap - over $100 for a family of 4 with entrees, 1 appetizer we split, and 2 glasses of wine.

Comfortable, raffish and consistently good taverna food in one of the few distinctive neighborhoods (Lockerbie) bordering Indianapolis downtown. You can usually get seated in this creaky old building, which has leaned 5 degrees off the vertical for probably lots longer than the 19 years we've been in town. Menu is an improvement on old-school; both the entree side (I had the penne with shrimp and scallops in a lightly tomatoed cream sauce) and the pizza side are fine, and come from the kitchen without undue delay. Bread is particularly good, and the standard side salad better than average. Amici's seems to have a tradition of Bohemian young woman servers; some have better people skills than others but all, in my experience, have been attentive and "mean well." And they actually talk like people and don't use the standard script. Main dining room is just the right size (might seat 40) with great street views through the old storefront windows right on the sidewalk. Ample off-street parking.

We were very disappointed with our experience at this restaurant. It is located in an older building in downtown Indianapolis which could have been a neat atmosphere, but tables and chairs were not clean and our waitress had an attitude with no personality. It seemed like she wanted to be somewhere else besides serving us. The food was not very authentic Italian and it was not very fresh. It tasted like they warmed it up from the night before. I'm glad we had a coupon for our meal because it was an expensive menu...especially for such sub-par food. We will not be back.

Arrived on a Saturday around 5, no one around. Waited several minutes to be seated. Chairs uncomfortable. Table sticky. Server was overly friendly with my husband (he was disgusted by her, she was filthy). She never glanced at me but continually made flirtatious to him. Bread fine, butter was near frozen. Salad was a few bits of lettuce with a sour "balsamic vinaigrette" that tasted bad. He had chicken fettuccine Alfredo. Said the sauce was good, but chicken dry. I have chicken Gorgonzola. I couldn't even swallow it. The pasta with marinara smelled and tasted like cinnamon apple. Horrible. Then a mix of old looking mushrooms, potatoes with brown spots, and a huge chunk of orange bell pepper. Just not good.

this place used to be well above average as a unique Italian restaurant in Indianapolis. it is still housed in a quaint, cozy, albeit slightly rundown house near the downtown area, but the menu offerings have not remained up to par. the marinara sauce on the pasta side tasted like thickened ketchup. the bruschetta had a spoiled "tang" to it. and the chicken gorgonzola was dry and tired. i wish i could say more re this restaurant because i love these types of places but the food has to be worthy and it isn't anymore. the pasta ala caruso used to be a menu highlight and it has now been removed from the offering. all in all, very uninspired dining.
