We spent the night at the Indy Lodge on 9/14/13. It was DISGUSTING!!!! The carpets and floors in the hallways and common areas were dirty, several ceiling tiles were missing or broken, the pool was completely empty, the exterior doors (other than to the lobby) had pieces of stainless steel (flat but bent) to be used to enter, our shower was so disgusting that NO ONE in our party would even take a shower. We waited until we got home. There was garbage and a bottle of cleaning supplies under the beds. When I booked the room, I was promised a free continental breakfast---we got a cup of coffee. The very worst part was that my granddaughters played barefoot and the bottoms of their feet were BLACK....that's how dirty it was. There were also sheets hung over some of the windows and actual HOLES in the outside stucco. I reported it this morning, was promised the manager was due in and would call. That's been about 9 hours and I've heard nothing. DO NOT stay at this hotel!!!

Room Tip: DO NOT stay at this hotel. It is filthy and has nothing for kids to do, no restaurant, and no brea...

Dear Guest,
First, allow me to apologize for your troublesome stay. We have made several changes since your visit. The housekeeper that should have ensured your room to Indy Lodge standards was let go immediately. Room to room renovations are ongoing, and fortunately, most guests consistently tell us they are quite impressed with the Indy Lodge given that it is not rated a 4- or 5-stars at this time. We are installing new exterior door lock systems, laying new carpet, steam-cleaning or replacing all drapes, bringing in new furniture, painting and fixing up all the time... The Indy Lodge is a unique facility in Indiana, one of the first accommodations on the Southside of the city and we are proud to be restoring it back to the landmark it once was. It is truly one of a kind. We are not a franchise and we strive to offer cozy, warm, affordable rooms with firm mattresses, quiet surroundings for a good night’s sleep. We are constantly improving features of our rooms with day-by-day improvements giving each room its own signature. As long as we have been operating under new owners (Oct. 2012), we have not offered a continental breakfast, but we do serve fresh hot coffee from 6:00 am until noon in the lobby. We like to believe that we can change your mind about our hotel. Let us prove to you that we are a quality stay at an affordable rate. Give us a call for reservations in one of our newly designed rooms.

The hotel is in the process of remodeling, so the pool is down. The lobby looks good, but the rooms need some work still. Our room had the drain backing up in the shower. It maybe be because the water pressure is so great that the drain could not keep up. There were ants in the bathroom. There was no drain in the sink and it was rusted. There was various paint/plaster/carpeting repair work to do. The worst thing was that one night be saw a big rat in the hallway when getting to our room. The new owners are trying and want to make improvements, but there is SO much to do. There was a police officer in the lobby or parking lot every night. The prices is right at $40-$50 a night, and the week rate is awesome at $200, that was great for GenCon, because we were not in our rooms much. There was room during Gencon, and this is only 6 miles from downtown. On the plus side, they had awesome wifi and DirectTV, but the TV was small and old style CRT. They took my card the first night and charged it right away, so I could not change cards at checkout. You get what you pay for. Red Lobster right next door.

Room Tip: Ask for a newly remodeled room, first floor, close to the lobby. The wifi was good close to the lob...

This place seems to have a chequered past: search for The Travelers Inn or Bridgemont Inn and you'll see what I mean.

That said, I didn't suffer any of the horrible sounding problems described in those reviews. The place is clearly under new management but still in need of some TLC. There is no breakfast (just free coffee) and the swimming pool was very much shut. If you approach the building from the wrong direction, you'd think the whole thing was shut down frankly.

Compared to my last hotel/motel, this place was great: the room was big with two double beds; the air conditioning worked, it was clean; the shower was hot and powerful.
It's not a wonderland though: it needs new carpets, new wallpaper and a lick of paint. The doors are also painfully thin so you can hear conversations in the corridors like they were in your room.

It's a great location if you have a car but the bus service isn't too bad either. Buses are $4 for the day and you can catch them less than 10 minutes down the road. Check out IndyGo; the routes are all coded into Google Maps. Buses don't run too early or late at the weekend; but taxis only cost about $15 into the centre or back.

The area surrounding the motel isn't that interesting. There's a Red Lobster next door and a liquor store over the road. I imagine you'd be best heading for the centre for dinner though.

The best thing about this place is the price. This place is dirt cheap. Yes, it's not a home from home; it's like being in an old hostel. But it's probably cheaper than a hostel! This is possibly the cheapest place in Indianapolis. If you're looking to pay as little as possible for your stay, I doubt you will disappointed by this place.
