This Windmill is just one of a few still working and the only one open to the public. The guide was pleasant and friendly and made us feel welcome. He explained the workings of a windmill and informed us that if we were not already married we could be married in the mill. They hold approx. 56 weddings a year. One of the most romantic things in the world. The only bad point about the mill is that the tram stop is a good 15 minute walk but it's worth it. The price was approx. 8 euros or Free with an Amsterdam pass.

for visitors to Holland, the windmill is an icon, this is the only one open to the public near Amsterdam. entry is only about 8 EUR. our guide gave us a very detailed and full description of the windmill system in Amsterdam. and also fully illustrated to us how the windmill operates. During the session the wind pick up and he actually started the windmill for us !

This was the best session during out visit to Amsterdam.

From centraal, catch tram number 2 to the last stop, Niew Sloten, and walk there, print a map from google first. Also next door is a snack food store and you can try some local snack foods.

Did not expect to much, but we were then facinated by this tour. We learning about how Holland manages its complex water system through windmills and how thes magic towers work. Our guide shared with passion a deep knowlege how life was in the windmill and cillage life of past years. Run by volunteers who keep the mill turning you can feel their love and pride.

Visited as it was listed in the I Amsterdam map. We initial got lost finding it but when we did find it was worth the trip. The staff there are helpful and informative and allowed us to take photos on the tour including some for us.

Had a wonderful visit here! The docents were very helpful and informative about all the aspects of windmills - different uses, how it works. This is a working windmill to lift water. Definitely glad we came out here. The Coopery Museum isn't quite as good, there is lots of interesting things to see and there are explanations in several languagues available. It's just a bit crowded. Took the tram out here from central Amsterdam. The walk from the tram line is probably a bit longer than the guide book says; but it is a pleasant walk, mostly along a canal. This musuem is free on the iAmsterdam card.
