This was well worth the train ride out, which on Line 2, was a tour on its own. The volunteer guide was informative and interesting. We learned a lot about the purpose of windmills, canals, and a little on Rembrandt too. We loved walking through the cute little down of Sloten too. We recommend a visit to the site and it is included in the I Amsterdam card!

An trip well worth taking. A quick bus ride on the 195 from Schiphol Airport. We were warmly received by the ladies at the front desk and were given an informative background to the history and engineering by a truly knowledgable tour guide who has had the practical experience of running such a windmill.

A really interesting guided tour of a functioning windmill. Well worth the tram ride and walk. The guide was tremendous. I hope it continues to be a feature of south Amsterdam

The molen van Sloten is a bit out of the way (I walked 0.8 mile from the Baden Powellweg Tram stop) but it’s worth the hike. The cooperage museum is okay but, if you’re from New York, they have a model of Henry Hudson’s Half Moon which he used to explore the Hudson River.
The real draw is getting a personal tour of the working windmill from the Miller himself! Tom explained how the windmill works to pump water uphill to drain the polders so the Dutch can reclaim the land. The 19th century engineering is absolutely amazing. It was cool to go out on the upper deck where he steers the top of the windmill and sets the sails. If you want to get out of the busy city, this is a great stop.

Very informative and interesting. The tour guide took time to explained everything clearly. Great care taken re safety. Unfortunately there was thunder and lightning so we couldn't see it working but still well worth the visit.
