If you are looking for a true Italian experience, less tourism, but still want to visit many places of interest B&B Casteltiziano in Cicciano (just outside Napoli) might be just what you are looking for. The fantastic host, Francesca, can tell you all about the surroundings and special places that are not in the touristic guides.
The village of Cicciano is located not far from Naples, close to the Parco Regionale del Partenio. I stayed a few nights at B&B Casteltiziano with my girlfriend and we had a fantastic, impressive time here. The apartment of Casteltiziano is spacious, decorated with ancient Italian furniture, quite and cool. We slept very well every night. The supermarket is just around the corner and close by there are multiple restaurants where you can have very good meals for friendly prices. It was the perfect base for an active cultural city-trip.
Besides the many sightseeings in beautiful surroundings, it stroke me that the people here are very friendly and helpful. They enjoy to have a little chat, to know where you’re from and so and are ever so eager to help you find your way (it makes you feel really welcome and less of a touristy outsider you might feel when you are in the more crowded holiday areas).
In short what we did in five days Cicciano:
We visited the city of Naples (Napoli) of course. It has been the best city ever for long walks through narrow streets, churches, shrines, little shops and good, very good food. You can walk for hours without getting the slightest bit bored.
We visited one of the nearby islands, Ischia, with the ferry that left from Napoli harbor. It was quite touristy there, and so where the prices there, but not a bad trip if you like touring.
We visited some interesting sites around Cicciano in nearby villages like old roman grave tombs and amphitheater in nearby villages.
We visited the Vesuvius of course, a very impressive walk on the vulcano and a spectaculair view of the bay of Napoli.
It wasn't only those visits and trips, but very much also the kind caring of our hostess Francesca that made our stay an unforgettable experience!
