Clifty Falls State Park is the most picturesque park in Indiana, and fall is the best time of year to visit. The fall foiliage is beautiful and provides a fitting frame for the four major falls in the park. The hikes range from easy to rugged, providing an outdoor experience for all tastes. You'll want to stay alert on some of the trails as fossels abound on the property.

The family friendly Clifty Falls Inn allows you to stay in modern facilites on the park grounds and enjoy a lodge like feel. The wonderful view of nearby Madison and the Ohio river remind you of the many other areas of interest that can be found only a couple of miles away. Madison is full of history, with most of the downtown a national historic district. All in all, a great place to spend a vacation.

When you visit Madison, be sure to venture through one of 12 hiking trails at Clifty Falls State Park. Whether it's a breath taking view of one of the Falls, trails, or a picnic in a shelter house, you will be glad you visited.

The park also offers a nice campground, close to the Olympic sized swimming pool. Entire park & pool area are very clean & well maintained..

Be sure to visit the Nature Center at the South end of the park. Walk down the path to the observation tower. Beautiful views overlooking downtown Madison!!

The park is home to the newly renovated Clifty Inn. The Inn offers very reasonable rates, an indoor pool, and very delicious food served in the immaculate dinning room. Choose from the Inn's menu or country style buffet, when available.

Admission to the Park is $4.00 for Indiana residents & $5.00 for non-Indiana residents.

No matter what season it is, Clifty Falls State Park is beautiful! Madison is very blessed to have such a wonderful park.

Clifty Falls is a nice park.

The campground is nice. I stayed during the week in July and found it uncrowded, clean and quiet. I found the showers to have the right temperature, but it is a bit frustrating to have to push the button every minute. A site with electric runs about $17 per day and you can select your spot and pay online.

We used the pool one day. It was cold, with a temperature of 72°F, but the pool was nice with a great slide and diving board. It costs $2 per person per day to use the pool, but they have a nice changing room and deck chairs.

You can hike along the top of the canyon and see the various falls from the top, or along the bottom. You really can't get good views of the falls from the bottom because the rock and tree debris has closed the trails under the falls. But it is fun to hike the stream bottom. The good views from the top become poor in late summer as vegetation increases and water flow decreases. I know that many parks are trying to be more 'natural' but I think some strategic cutting of brush and trees would make this park much, much nicer. Also, a combination of people not being careful and increasing insurance premiums have made some areas off limits, which is too bad, as these areas once offered some beautiful views. There is plenty of wildlife to view. We saw 2 snakes, 7 toads, crawdads, millipedes, centipedes, deer, woodchucks, rabbits, etc. Right now the tunnel is closed. So you won't need your boots and flashlights right now.

All the staff was very helpful and friendly. Especially Andrea at the campground and Hannah at the Nature Center.

It looked like rain the last day of our stay so we checked into the lodge. I have also posted a review there.

We visited Clifty Falls State Park during Memorial Day weekend and had a great time. The park is located just a couple miles west of Madison and has beautiful overlooks of the Ohio River and four waterfalls within the park.

Even though we were there on a beautiful holiday weekend, the park was not crowded. However, the campground and hotel were booked, so if you want to stay on the grounds, you may need to book as early as possible.

The park has one main road that connects all of the overlooks and has parking at each of the overlooks. If you would rather hike, the park has a main trail that connects all of the overlooks.

The first overlook is a view of the Ohio River from the bluffs inside the park. The remainder of the overlooks generally view four different waterfalls in the park. Clifty Falls is the most impressive of the four because of hte amount of waterflow and Tunnel Falls has the most height. The only disappointing waterfall was Hoffman falls. It was hard to see because the viewing area was blocked by foilage and did not have a lot of flow. I have heard some of the falls trickle off during the late summer, so you may want to call ahead if the area has been in a drought.

If you just want to drive through the park and stop at the overlooks, it should only take you a couple of hours to see it all. Afterwards, you can visit Madison and take in the historic houses and buildings.

We had a great time in Clifty Falls. The hiking is awesome and so is the scenery. The falls were very light while we were there, and we would like to come again when there would be more water. The campground was very nice and the staff was soooooooo friendly! The only complaint I would have is that the bathrooms all have push button water and only lasts seconds. You cannot adjust the temp of the showers either and the water is only lukewarm. I suggest that you shower at the pool in the handicap stall. That is the only spigot that turned. Also, the campstore isn't in operation. Seems that Indiana DNR outsources many things now, and that is one of them.
