“"What a Renaissance"”
Reviewed 1 January 2008

My wife and I recently celebrated a wedding anniversary and traveled to small, historic town of Madison, Indiana. We had never been to Madison and had a hard time finding information about some of the hotels in the downtown area. Madison is known for the rennaissance of it's downtown and shopping. My wife and I like small towns and figured this would be a great weekend getaway close to home.
I stumbled across the Riverboat Inn which is located on the Madison visitors page. We originally had reservations at another hotel, but it had been suggested that we try the Riverboat Inn for a more romantic weekend. After checking out the website it seemed like a really nice place to stay with a great view of the river. I checked out several reviews and some were good and some were bad. However, I found that the Inn had just recently been bought by new owners and renovated from it's once ugly past. While I never got to see the hotel in it's prior state I have been told it was a dump.
Well, I have to say there are no signs of the the "dump" it used to be. Upon pulling up to the hotel it was obvious that it had been around for some time, but it echoed the historic feeling of the town and welcomed you.
Upon entering the hotel it's revitalization was immediately noticable. We were immediately greated by the owner and some her staff. The lobby is small, warming and welcoming and resembles that of a country cottage. A new, small and well done bar is located to your left. A breakfast/lounge area is also housed with-in the lobby where games and a t.v. are provided for your entertainment.
The Inn only contains 26 rooms and is only two floors, but manages to keep a happy medium between a bed and breakfast and a more upscale hotel. We were escorted to our room which immediately caught our breath upon entering. We found that they had already had the fireplace going to take the chill out of the room and create a warming welcome. The room was much more "homely" and roomy than that of a namebrand "suite" hotel. Our bed was more than comfortable and lined with "Eddie Bauer" linens. The room also contained a day-bed for additional space. A small living area was also nice for extra room and comfort. A recliner and LCD TV added to the comfort of home. The second floor room also gave way to a gorgeous view of the Ohio River and grounds of the Inn. Outside our room were two swivel chairs and a table to enjoy the view.
We later enjoyed some of the other comforts of the Inn, including a complimentary breakfast which was homemade and delicious. Also the Inn provides entertainment via live music at various times hroughout the year. They also have a large patio lined with several fireplaces, tables with gas heat and bar tables with heat for entertaining and relaxation. These were great for the cold weather we experienced on our trip, but allowed us to still enjoy the view and surroundings.
Finally, I have to say the staff and owners were some of the friendliest, courteous and catering people I've encountered while traveling. Anything we needed was immediately provided with a smile. The hospitality overwhelmed us and lured us back to the hotel after dinner for wonderful conversation and company while enjoying a few drinks from the bar.
Of all the places I've been the Riverboat Inn ranks with some of the best. The website really depicts what the rooms are and you will not be disappointed!!!! We will be back!!!
