“Very tasty, plentiful, and inexpensive Lebanese food”
Reviewed 25 June 2014

We were happily surprised that this small restaurant in downtown Michigan City had absolutely delicious food at very reasonable prices. So reasonable that we completely over ordered and had twice as much as we could eat! Everything was delicious and we appreciated the many wine options as well. We will definitely be back.

“Well done, nice atmosphere”
Reviewed 25 June 2014

We dined there for lunch. Restaurant has nice atmosphere, and service was friendly and attentive. Food was very good, lunch prices extremely reasonable. Enjoyed our meal, if ever in Michigan City we would go there again!

“New location, New Name, And Still Great Food”
Reviewed 17 June 2014

Mo recently relocated, changed the name of his restaurant (formerly Sahara), and made a few changes to the mainly Lebanese menu (expanded), but you need not worry as the food is still as good as it was, your favorites can be found and the prices are totally reasonable. For those who have never been, do not wait. We live far from the area and based upon other reviewers tried Mo's restaurant last year and were so glad that we listened to reviews saying it was worth the detour! We returned this year and Mo once again catered a lavish assortment of food for 15 that was a hit with everyone! Be sure to order toum (a garlicky dip), falafel, gyros, eggplant, dates, grape leaves, spanakopita, schwarma, and any of the salads. In short, we liked everything. We urge everyone in the area to find your way to the Pickle and Turnip - you won't be sorry!

“More than we expected!!”
Reviewed 12 June 2014

On a recent road trip we decided to swing through Michigan City, Indiana to see if we wanted to come back. The weather was overcast and chilly and most places were deserted. We can only imagine how enjoyable the boating will be when the temps warm up.

Lunch options other than chains were very few. The harbor front seafood spot had a very tired scent so we headed into the little downtown. Pickle & Turnip was the sole restaurant and we were pleasantly surprised. The decor is colorful and fresh. The restrooms were immaculate. The service was youthful but top notch.

Menu appears to be Lebanese. The lentil soup was the best we've tried and I saw the owner back in the kitchen using his stick blender to thicken it. The grape leaves again were at the top of his game. Two of us tried the chicken shawarma wrap and it was excellent.

Normally I don't give out 5 stars but this charming little place deserves it. There is a full bar and I can imagine it is very popular in the evening.

“Good place for Middle Eastern food”
Reviewed 8 June 2014

This restaurant was formerly known as the Sahara and recently moved further north, closer to both U.S. 12 and the Lighthouse Mall. Since the move and name change, the menu has also expanded. We found the service courteous and efficient. We often eat Middle Eastern food so we know a good cuisine when we taste it. You won't be disappointed. Also, a good assortment of wines and craft beers is available. If you're shopping at Lighthouse, you needn't go far for some good Middle Eastern food.
