“Who knew the beach was this close to the Midwest”
Reviewed 15 July 2016 for a stay in July 2016

This apartment was great. Darlene, the owner is great and has a wonderful place. It's close to everything you could want. The beach at Washington State Park was our favorite. If you decide to go to Indiana Dunes State park to check out another beach, expect to wait in a 1 hour line of cars to get in, especially on a nice weekend and it's not as nice as Washington State Park. Hokkaido Sushi was awesome. Top Dog was awesome. Cabo ice cream was the best and we still crave!! Back to the apartment...it was clean, very well decorated, and had everything you need to cook a meal. We loved it so much we stayed an extra day. Why drive to Florida when you could come here. We're planning our trip for next year up here as well.

Liked best: Felt very home like.
Liked least: Seems like it's on the border of a sketchy neighborhood. While still in a tourist like town if you go a block or two in the wrong direction it appears sketchy would still book again however.

“Another gorgeous apartment”

I stayed in the downstairs one bedroom last year and this year booked both apartments to include my parents. This upstairs one bedroom is just as amazing. The decor is beautiful. The living room is very comfortable with a couch and love seat as well as a new smart tv. The whole building has amazing wifi as well. The kitchen is huge with a nice high top table as well as an eat at island. There is a microwave, coffee pot, toaster, oven and range as well as a dishwasher. There are plenty of place settings and coffee cups as well as a few pots, pans, and drink shakers. The bedroom in this apartment has an attached bathroom with a large closet. The bed had a full set of sheets and many pillows to make things comfortable. There were great drapes that blocked out the early morning summer sun. I would recommend brining an extension cord to plug in phones and such in the bedroom if you want your phone bedside. There were limited outlets in the bedroom.

“Comfortable, convenient lodging in Michigan City”

We found this Apt when we decided on a last minute trip to Northern Indiana. The location was great - right behind the outlet mall and with easy access to IN 12 & IN 20 and I-94. We used this as our home base for trips to SW Michigan for Warren Dunes and St. Joseph, South Bend for the Chocolate factory tour and Merrillville. Unfortunately, we did not venture down to Washington Park until the last evening. We wish we had found it sooner. There were three of us, so the twin inflatable bed was put to use and was very comfortable. The kitchen was well-outfitted for eating in - a welcome change. I would definitely recommend this apt. and we appreciate Darlene's responding so quickly to our inquiry.

Beautiful home with a nice porch. We stayed in the 2 bedroom apartment which had plenty of room for the three of us. It was all ready for our stay with everything we needed when we arrived. The beach is less than a mile away and right by the Michigan City Lighthouse. The kids shopped at the Outlet Mall across the street while I relaxed at the apartment. Would definitely return!!

“Michigan City fun time”

We spent a week in Michigan City and stayed at Darlene's place. The apartment is really well positioned if you want to abandon your car. Although the walk to the beach is somewhat lengthy, about a 15-20 minute walk, especially on a scorching summer day.
The shopping mall and the uptown art district is much closer, the shopping mall right across the street and uptown a few blocks away.

The whole town feels a little depressed (someone else mentioned questionable neighborhood, nothing questionable about it, just a blue collar neighborhood) with dilapidated homes and empty streets.
But every place we went to was above average to excellent, the coffee shop (Lakeshore Coffe), ice cream shop (Cabo's ice cream), restaurants (our favorite was Oldschool on 9th) etc...there's a truffle shop that if you put it on Chicago mag mile it would be one of star attractions among everything else already there. People that we met were very friendly. If you're a craft beer lover Shoreline brewery is outstanding and I heard the food there is great but I only had cold pints. There's a cigar shop (Golden leaf) with a great selection. There's a liquor shop (King Richard's wine and spirits) with a stupendous selection of craft beer, scotch and whiskey.

Once you're on the Washington park beach you're in a sand and water heaven. If someone took you there blindfolded, dropped you off and asked where you were your first guess would probably be Southern California. There's plenty of parking there even on a busy weekend, there was art festival when we were there.

The apartment we stayed in was nice and comfortable, well it, quiet and well equipped. Darlene is a great host. She'll let you you have your privacy but she's easily accessible if you need her assistance.

We were nicely surprised with what Michigan city has to offer. There seemed be every single thing I look for when on vacation and everything within a couple miles circle. Sometimes I have a hard time finding all that in much bigger places. And everything here like I mentioned was outstanding. We'll be back for sure.
I'd recommend you travel there and help these people get out of their economic blues, they are fighting hard and still kept their optimism.

Perfect location for us. It was walking distance from the beach, across the street from the mall, and just a couple blocks from the historic district. We were lucky enough to be there during the Taste of Michigan City and boat races. It was a very enjoyable stay!
