Great for a family get away. Loved the large Living Room space to visit and play checkers. The kids loved the game room. Will definitely go back to this hotel. Location is easy to find and within driving distance to alot of places to visit.

We just returned from a 3 night stay at the Essenhaus Inn! It was our first time there. We have stayed at the Carlisle Inn in Walnut Creek, in Ohio Amish Country, and love it! The Essenhaus Inn is owned by the same corporation....so we were pretty sure that it would be great too! We were not disappointed! The Essenhaus was wonderful. Rooms were big and clean, breakfast was good, and the staff were all friendly and helpful. The grounds were beautiful too....although the weather wasn't great for enjoying them this trip. We will be back!

Room Tip: Rooms on the front of the hotel....facing Route 20, have a prettier view.

Incredible service, lovely and immaculate rooms and a charming setting awaits you at Essenhaus Inn. We loved our stay here and will definitely return. We had a wonderful night's sleep in this quiet hotel and even though our room looked out to a highway it was very quiet in our room. The hotel is set back quite a bit from the road and the rolling hill, small lake and water fountain ensure quiet.

It is fun to wander the various areas of this hotel to see the unique and charming decor in each and every wing. It is not overdone, just nice and welcoming.

The service here must be mentioned. Every single person we came in contact with, either just in passing or needing their service, was exceptionally kind, helpful and professional. This is what makes Essenhaus so special!

We would have given this hotel an excellent rating except the included breakfast was just good, not great. There were hard-boiled eggs, lots of sweets, bagels, bread for toast, coffee and fruit in prepackaged cups. And our room was very spacious and so very clean and had a separate sink/dressing area which was nice, but each strip of wallpaper was starting to come apart at the seams. For these reasons we regrettably could not rate it excellent. But, we will return!

Room Tip: The atrium rooms were in a very charming area, but the rooms with a view of the lake in front were l...

We were only able to stay one night since we were in town for a football game (OU vs ND...Boomer Sooner), but we wished we could have stayed longer! The grounds are huge and beautiful and as soon as we got there we went for a walk. We stayed in a standard room, which was very spacious and comfortable. The complimentary breakfast was also a plus too. It had a wide variety of food and the dining area was nice and cozy. Walking around exploring all the little shops was fun too. The only thing that didn't really wow me was the restaurant. To me, it didn't live up to the hype everyone was giving it.

Visited for the first time on Labor Day. Beautiful decor. Had fun playing miniature golf (free). Enjoyed walking the property and sitting in the gazebo. Covered bridge and buggy rides a nice plus. Restaurant was very crowded, but, we got in quickly as we were guests at the inn. Food was very good. Breakfast buffet in the morning and the dining area were especially nice. Hope to come again!

Room Tip: I thought all of the rooms had patios or a balcony by the way I read the information on their site...

I have stayed here three times now, in the same suite each time. You will not find a better hotel in the area. If you are visiting Shipshewana, it's only about 10 to 15 mins away in Middlebury. Even if you don't get a suite, they have rooms with a balcony, patio, kitchenette, whirlpool tubs, and it is very clean, very comfortable. The decor is country class.

Stores on site, though a bit expensive, but you can always find some little thing to pick up. Bakery is heaven, restaurant is crowded, but usually goes fast. Very good meals, not gormet cuisine, just down home meat and mashed potatoes kind of food. Always free coffee and cookies in the lobby and everyone is very sweet. View of the grounds and landscaping is relaxing. I will always recommend this place.

It had been 17 years since we've stayed at this inn, and even back then, we loved it. They have made it into a Conference Center as well plus added another wing, swimming pool and more. The decor is beautiful. Plenty of seating inside and out if you want to sit and relax, people watch, read or whatever. They have an excellent comp hot/cold b'fast buffet each morning (and on Sundays you will appreciate this because nothing is open on Sundays in these Amish communities) in their large, well appointed b'fast/gathering area. Rooms all have Amish made furniture. If you're short, tho, you may want to see if there's a stool to use because the beds do set up higher than normal, but they're oh-so-very-comfortable! I like that you don't have to wait to be seated at their fabulous restaurant if you're a guest. You just give a time you plan to eat and show up. Even if there's a line waiting (and there always is), if you're a guest and you've set a time to eat, they usher you in right away. Their bakery is fun to shop in with so many delicious choices and it's attached to the restaurant. There are several individual shops on the property as well as carriage rides offered ($) to tour the grounds, which is quite large. The restaurant offers a family style menu, an all you can eat buffet or order separate entrees. We love going here and will return!
