“nice place”

We did some shopping, attended a banquet, and attended a car show. Great food. We went to the bakery later in the evening, and they were sold out of most everything. This was ok, it showed us that they provide fresh items daily.

“This is One of Indiana's Best Food Offerings!”
Reviewed 1 August 2014

I have driven miles in anticipation of eating at this restaurant a few times. In my estimation, this is one of the best places in Indiana to eat (definitely top 20). This visit was the first time I had the buffet. Always before we have chosen the family style dining. There is great volume of food to be had here - so you will get stuffed! This is not your typical buffet due to the quality of the voluminous amounts of food you will intake. Loved their noodles, they were rich and very delicious. The salad bar on the buffet is a meal in itself. Enjoyed their take on pasta salad. Fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy were very good as well. The most amazing part of the meal is the desert. They have numerous offerings, but the raspberry cream pie is worth a drive from anywhere to eat in my estimation. If you are in northern Indiana definitely do not miss this meal!

“Great Amish Value ! We enjoy the Family Style!”
Reviewed 31 July 2014

The Das Essenhaus is a mid west tradition. My parents from the east cost insisted on going any time they came out to the mid west..The fresh broasted chicken, breads,Veggies,Pies are all excellent. This place holds 750 people and is run with extreme perfection. The Millers know what their doing and it shows through out the operation. The adjacent bakery is hard to pass up after a dinner or lunch.I prefer the All you can eat family style dinner which is a great value at $14.95.

“Good food and plenty of it!”
Reviewed 29 July 2014

This spacious, welcoming "barn" restaurant features an extensive buffet of down-home, stick-to-your-ribs fare: fried chicken, roast beef, ham, soups, cheesy casseroles, hot veggies, etc. The salad bar offers a few unusual items, including diced chicken. The desserts are sweet and satisfying, though the homemade pies are not included. There are also menu and family-style options, but I can't speak for them. The buffet price goes up at 3:00 p.m., so if you can get in before then you'll save a few bucks. Warning: The buffet does not include a beverage, and as soon as you're seated the waitress asks for your drink order. Coffee, iced tea, milk, etc. will add $2 to your bill. No alcohol of any kind is served. Water is free.

The shops adjacent to the dining area are abundant and feature a wide variety of gift merchandise. Nothing is cheap, but you'll find many artful and unique items.

One special feature: The Essenhaus is one of the few full-service restaurants in the entire area that's open on Sundays!

“Grandma's cooking”
Reviewed 26 July 2014

Had a great chicken dinner here, just like Grandma used to make. Good food and good prices. Also had a little bakery in the back with wonderful pastries.
