Moses Campsite

Stayed here for two nights. Good outlook towards the tallest of the three falls. Bandas are basic with no electricity and the door closes by a bent nail. The showers are cold and outside. The toilets and long drops and there is no toilet paper. Food is cooked over charcoal so takes hours even for simple meals ordered in advance. Not sure where all the five star reviews come from, there are better places to stay than this for the price.

I spend two nights there camping with a friend and the area was definitely one of the most beautiful we've been on our trip. The campsite is very basic and can get a bit uncomfortable but its location and view of the waterfalls make up for it. The staff were friendly but they kept coming up to us seperately asking us to choose them as our guides for the hikes even after we told them a million times that we will let them know when we make plans. That made it very hard and uncomfortable to choose between them and we ended up choosing a guide from a complete other guest house. The food is not very tasty but comes in really huge portions! You should ask for your food at least 2 hours before you want to eat because it takes them a long time to prepare it. It was one of the most beautiful places Ive ever camped at.

The drive up the the hills towards the tiny town of Sipi is amazing already. Once our group of six arrived, we were greeted by two employees. I cannot stress enough how breathtaking the views are and how well maintained the campground is. We were all on a budget and it fit our needs perfectly.

The facilities themselves are what one would expect of a place that is accommodating of a small budget. Not the cleanest nor most modern, but I could have cared less. To me camping is also somewhat about roughing it.

We all had dinner for about 10.000 UGX per person, which was served in candlelight and all prepared from local food. Quite amazing and for the equivalent of 4 USD very hard to beat.

In the morning, we rose early and had a small breakfast that hit the spot before embarking on a guided tour (25.000 UGX) of the three waterfalls. It had rained the night before, but nevertheless, the hike was amazing, leading us through small enclaves, banana plantations, over and under rocks and ultimately to all three falls. (Note: The third and main waterfall which is visible from the campsite is also the most treacherous to get to. Free standing ladder that is quite steep and in addition to large gaps in between the stairs, goes on for a good 300ft. Aka, bring solid shoes). It is completely worth it.

Overall, fantastic place if on a budget. Very friendly staff, accommodating in every way. Have never had a better view waking up.

We have picked this camp as other options were either fully booked or too expensive and we have not regretted.

Surely one of the cheapest accommodation and the best views around sipi falls.

Very tranquil however staff and locals are chasing you to sell you sipi falls or cave tours which can become tiring.

Beautiful setting, stunning views of the waterfalls. Great staff, the boys are very helpful and fun to have around. The accom needs a bit of TLC. No electricity. Local food available is very good, great value for money. The tours offered are also worth doing, esp the coffee tour and sipi falls walking tour. The place needs a bit of love, but definitely worth a visit!

2 of us stayed there after a few Jinja. The place has the most amazing views of the valley. Staff were very helpful, rates reasonable and they had good suggestions to go hiking in Mt Elgon National Park. Their staff also guided us to the Sipi falls which were incredible. If you are travelling between Kenya and Uganda, I highly recommend a stop off at Moses Campsite.
They also prepare meals if required, which is a largely organic local food and very tasty.

Room Tip: Campsite - try get your vehicle, tent near the edge for the best view of the valley.

Getting to Sipi is pretty exhausting, considering it is not really that far distance wise from Jinja. However, once you get here you want to stay. The bandas are great value, and the patio has a FANTASTIC view of Sipi Falls. The staff can take you on a guided tour of the falls, and you can make and drink your own coffee!
Sunrise and sunset are beautiful. There are great spots for camping, and table for lounging, writing, and reading.
