We spent two nights at Oyster Bay Lodge at the end of April 2014. The estate was magnificent for long walks and taking it slow. The service from all staff was excellent. The only disappointment was the limited LCHF menu and picnic basket. The number flies at the restaurant was also rather off putting. Apparently the flies were a twice a year seasonal thing, but none the less not great having to compete with them.

Excellent B&B and highly highly recommend it. If you want to get away from it all this is the place to be. Couple of things you need to know in advance. These are not bad however will assist in ensuring you get everything out of this property that it has to offer. Arrive before dusk/night fall. The B&B is on a farm and the coast but getting there can be problematic. You need to have a high clearance vehicle as you will be driving on dirt road for over 25 kilometers from the main road. Driving at night on these roads can be nerve racking. There is ample to do. Horse back riding, dune buggy riding, hiking trails, star gazing, and so forth. There are no TV's in the room nor internet so bring a good book and sit on the beach. The B&B does offer dinner service for an extra charge and is highly recommended. The food here is superb. Some rooms (chalet) do have a fire place in the room. Everything was clean, up to standard and probably the best place I have stay on the garden route. The owner even greeted us at dinner. Cannot say enough about this place. FANTASTIC!!

Room Tip: Get a Chalet with a fireplace in the room and make a romantic night or two!

You get a lot for your money here: a huge private estate with bush land, forest, dunes, beach and a warm river lagoon to swim in. There are a lot of free roaming horses here and you can book riding as well. The room was clean and spacious and the sleep quality excellent. The dinners were creative and delicious, and you could order two courses of breakfast, which was nice for a change. The staff was friendly and helpful. The lodge is at least half an hour drive away from the next main road – but once you’re there, you don’t want to leave anyway.

This is an amazing place where you need some patience to get there as the 22kms of road from Humansdorp is more of a dirt track, but don't let that put you off. The location is stunning with 3.5kms of private beach, and a list of all sorts to keep you occupied from Riding horses on the beach to visiting a local dairy farm to sand boarding on the massive dunes. The food is five star and well worth the 220 rand for Dinner which is five courses. The staff are exceptional, from the Manager. Jacques ,Assistant Manageress Claire to Katie and Susette in the bar and diningroom. They were all very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble for them. We would definitely go back.
