“Mt Rosa Lodge - Hidden Treasure”
Reviewed 23 October 2011

We just returned from 3 nights at Mt Rosa Lodge, the highlight of our trip to the South Island. Impeccably clean, unbelievable views, extremely welcoming hosts, a relaxing haven.

Mt Rosa Lodge is in the Gibbston Valley, about a 10 minute drive to Arrowtown and a 20 minute drive to Queenstown. This is the perfect place to experience both the serenity and scenery of the Valley with the bustle and buzz of Queenstown which is right on your doorstep.

My husband and I would whole-heartedly recommend Mt Rosa Lodge as a luxurious, 5 star B&B. Brian and Maureen also made great food and wine recommendations in both Queenstown and Arrowtown.

Hope to see you both back in this region and call in on us for a glass of the new vintage of Imbiber.

My partner recently whisked me out to the Gibbston Valley for a surprise birthday treat at Mt Rosa Lodge. I would thoroughly recommend it for any food and wine lovers looking to treat themselves to a relaxing break away. Brian and Maureen the hosts, made us feel so welcome in their beautiful Lodge where we enjoyed some bubbles and nibbles in front of the roaring fireplace before sitting down to a very tasty meal prepared by Maureen. The hosts own Pinot Noir, Imbiber, is one of the best we've tasted and definitely worth a drive up to the property just to get your hands on a bottle or 2!
Our room was beautifully appointed with a cosy fireplace, extremely comfortable large bed and stunning views of the surrounding local vineyards and hills. We awoke the next morning to snow blanketing the entire landscape. Overall, the whole experience was simply magical!

Thank you for your review of Mt Rosa Lodge. It was a special time with one of our biggest snow storms ever which of course makes it even more spectacular.
A real joy to share your birthday suprise with you. Please do come up to visit and check out how the next vintage of Imbiber is faring.
Thanks again for thinking of us here at Mt Rosa Lodge

We actually booked ourselves into another B&B for our honeymoon in Queenstown but due to some circumstamces (which I think is fate) we got recommended to Mt Rosa. I was abit hesitant but upon looking at the website and reviews on Trip Advisor decided to stay at this place. It definitely lived up to the great reviews I read. A warm welcome by Maureen, amazing view from the room and the comfortable and luxurious decor in the room lifted our tired moods after having our flight delayed. Both the hosts Brain & Maureen are great conversationalist with lots of advice on where to go and what to do in the area. Food was to die for especially the chicken and coconut rice she cooked for us the second night upon realising I am a Malaysian with a penchant for spicy food and rice! The "limited edition 2008 Pinot Noir" was great too :). Thanks again for the wonderful hospitality shown to us during our short stay there. I wish I had actually booked a longer stay.

It was wonderful to have you stay for your honeymoon, although we had not been aware before you arrived that it was a only a couple of days after your wedding. How honored to share this time with you.
When you get to imbibe of the 2009 Pinot Noir we would love to have your thoughts on that vintage.
We look forward to a future return sometime.

Four days spent with Brian and Maureen helping with the harvest of their Pinot Noir grapes, a trek up Mt Rosa behind the lodge, exhausting but stunning views plus an amazing trip into Skippers Canyon to say nothing of the fine hospitality, food and wine we enjoyed throughout our stay. Top class accommodation . Hope to return next year!

Room Tip: Mt Rosa first choice but all just lovely

We stayed with Brian and Maureen in March. The lodge is amazing, as is the view, the rooms, and the food. These people really know how to make guests feel welcome, relaxed and well fed. Nothing is too much trouble and if you are interested in food and wine, then these guys are a veritable feast of information and knowledge!

Room Tip: Each suite is destictive and lovely

As we drove up through the vineyards, the sun shinning down on their autumn glory, we knew we were in for a treat. After a very warm welcome from Maureen we sat out on the terrace taking in the incredible view with tea and homemade biscuits.
We ate there on our first night and after a glass of wine from their own vineyard sat in front of the fire we had a lovely meal cooked by Maureen. Both Maureen and Brian our hosts joined us and made us and the children feel very welcome and also passed on their considerable knowledge of the area. Breakfast the next morning was just as delicious as dinner, with fresh fruit salad, home made yoghurt, various cereals, pastries, breads and jams as well as a very special cooked breakfast.
Brian and Maureen were incredibly helpful throughout our stay and made lots of good suggestions of where to go and what to do and even persuaded our daughter to do a bungy jump, the highlight of her trip!
Little touches like chocolate easter eggs left in the room and fresh flowers were really appreciated as were the tea and coffee making facilities. The rooms are beautifully decorated with great attention to detail. The beds are incredibly comfortable and the room we stayed in, the Mount Rosa Suite, had a spa bath and fire place... very welcoming as the temperatures dropped so low when we were there we woke to snow covered mountains one morning.
We had an amazing stay at Mount Rosa, it is in a stunning peaceful location but still close enough to Queenstown to take advantage of all the activities. If we are lucky enough to have another visit to New Zealand a stay at Mount Rosa will be at the top of our list. Thank you Maureen and Brian for making it such a special experience

Our stay was fantastic. This was the first place we stayed in NZ after 20 hours of travel. The impeccably clean yet casual atmosphere was exactly what we needed. We received great advice on things to do, wineries to visit and places to eat. The dinner at the lodge was great and the breakfasts are truly memorable. Fruit salad made fresh every day, yogurt, granola, toast, eggs, coffee, juice and even dessert! Brian and Maureen always had wine and stories to share.

The view from the main room is stunning. The mist over the river in the morning is amazing. Our large room's private patio also had a great view of the sunset. We would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Queenstown, Cromwell or Arrowtown.
