My partner and I used Casa Luna as a base for exploring the King Valley & Alpine Valley regions. It's a lovely place, well hosted and with good food. We found it to be located very conveniently for visiting local wineries, restaurants and other food places like the cheese factory in Milawa and EV Olives in Markwood.

Enjoyed our stay at Casa Luna over the Queen's Birthday weekend.
We had been there before and had the same very comfortable, well appointed queen room.
Breakfast each day was different, with a choice of main course and extremely well cooked and presented.
Gwenda and David are very hospitable and go out of their way to ensure you have a pleasant stay.

Situated some 40 minutes south of Wangaratta towards Whitfield, Casa Luna offers purpose-built accommodation overlooking rural countryside, close to the King Valley wine region.

We stayed two nights here in mid-March, staying in a King Suite a short stroll from the main building. It was well fitted out with an excellent area for bags and other items (a rarity at many places of accommodation) and a very comfortable bed. The spacious deck on one side of the suite was a particularly pleasant place for a glass or two of Brown Brothers’ Prosecco as the sun set across the valley.

The cooked breakfast was served in the main building and was delicious, delivered at a leisurely pace. The dining room includes a small library, which looked like it would have been a good place to relax, had we not been out and about for much of our time in the region. The Mountain View Hotel in nearby Whitfield is a great option for dinner, although the back road there isn’t the finest surface you’ll ever drive over!

We got a good deal through a voucher, and would happily stay there again.

If you are looking for somewhere to stay, dine and relax in the King Valley area look no further than Casa Luna Gourmet Accommodation. We stayed here 7 years ago and returned recently for another short stay. We were not disappointed and are wondering why we waited 7 years to come back. Gwenda & David are wonderful hosts and Gwenda's food is fantastic. We started our days with a delicious and hearty breakfast to get us going, then set off around the region visiting many wineries and produce stores. Such a beautiful and peaceful area to travel around and everyone we came across was so friendly. When we returned to Casa Luna we had a comfortable lounge to sit and read or we could just take in the magnificent views while trying some of the local wines we had just purchased. Gwenda would then cook a tasty and beautiful dinner for us and other guests. We could then go back to our beautiful and comfortable room for the night. In the mornings we would sit on our balcony and watch the sun rise over the mountains and listen to all the wonderful sounds of the country. So relaxing! We will not be waiting 7 years for our next visit. Thank you Gwenda & David.

Thank you for being amongst the many guests who choose to return to Casa Luna to repeat their first - second, third.....- pleasurable experience. We also hope you don't wait another 7 years, however its great to look back and see how Casa Luna has grown and developed. The new King Suites, and La Piazza wood-fired kitchens weren't here last time!

Have just spent a lovely weekend in the King Valley at Casa Luna. Wonderfully relaxed hosts David and Gwenda's attention to detail, not to mention fantastic food, an absolute delight. Set in an amazing location with valley views and proximity to all the wineries and foodie treats the King Valley has to offer. Drive around the countryside wine and food tasting or just while away the hours at Casa Luna, the choice is yours.
Enjoyed our short stay immensely, especially our memorable entree of Cotechino Thank you!

David and I are very pleased you enjoyed the pleasures of Casa Luna. The service we give is relaxed but caring, and we work hard to ensure guests are well looked after and their every need is met. So glad you enjoyed the cotechino - one of our favourite locally produced products.

We spent a fantastic three nights with Gwenda and David. Nothing was too much trouble. Food was just beautiful, accommodation gorgeous and we felt like we had been away for a month not just a few nights! The King Valley region is also very beautiful and we came back with a bootful of wonderful wine as well as a greater appreciation for the history of north-eastern Victoria. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: All rooms are lovely, but the new King suites would be perfect for two couples travelling together...

I'm so pleased Casa Luna was able to work its magic on you both, and you were able to quickly relax here. We really enjoyed our discussions about the magic of Rome, and the inspiration it, and the Italians, give us in the food we cook, and how to live. We look forward to you bringing some Italiophile friends when you return, to enjoy the privacy and comfort of the King Suites.

We go to the King Valley's ‘La Dolce Vita’ festival each year. Unfortunately quality accommodation is always in short supply in the area, but this year we managed to book into Casa Luna in the wonderfully named Boggy Creek Road in Myrrhee, which is in the not-so-near vicinity of Milawa. It’s perfectly sited for sampling the wines of the King Valley.

Casa Luna is off the beaten path so get used to the idea of a road that requires a bit more care; but it also means that there is little annoying passing traffic to speak of.

Along with another couple we booked the two king bed rooms which are separated by a private lounge/library and sited in an architecturally striking building away from the main house. Each room has a private covered verandah with outdoor table and chairs. This meant that we could enjoy the privacy of our bedroom and its verandah then meet up with our friends in the contemporary and funky lounge, enjoying the view over fields towards the nearby ranges. The building was created around 18 months ago so the interiors are modern and fresh.

Both bedrooms have a king bed fitted with sheets and blankets topped with a striking imitation raccoon fur throw. There’s a leather lounge, flat screen TV with built in DVD player, iPod player, ceiling fan, reverse cycle air conditioner, bar fridge (with a bottle of sparkling mineral water), tea and coffee making facilities and yummy biscotti which are topped up each day. There’s an extra blanket for those colder nights, two bath robes, an ironing board and iron and an LED torch for those who struggle in the dark of a country night. There is very adequate storage for both belongings and luggage. The room’s lighting was good.

The bathroom is luxurious and stylish with large walk-in shower, single sink with under-bench storage and toilet. The bathroom cosmetics are MOR. The shower has both a fixed rain-head and a hand-held wand. Water pressure was satisfactory and the pressure did not vary during use. One criticism was that the stylish wash-plane sink can not be filled up with water.

There are also two modern queen bed units in a wing of the main house which look across a courtyard to the fields and hills beyond.

Casa Luna is run by Gwenda Canty and her husband David who are amiable hosts. Gwenda and David prepare breakfast for guests each morning and also do a dinner if requested. The cooked breakfast is taken in the sunny dining/living room in the main house and begins with apple juice. No other juices were available during our stay. The menu varied daily and during our stay we were served fresh fruit salad, toast with butter and preserves, eggs fried or poached with accompaniments such as mushrooms, tomato and bacon and baked egg with parmesan and mushrooms. There was good coffee and a choice of fresh leaf teas. Gwenda and David top-up the tea, coffee and toast as requested. Service was not fast, but we were not in any hurry.

Sunday night we had dinner with four other guests who were also staying at Casa Luna. It was held in the purpose built outdoor dining area which has a tiled table topped with glass that comfortably sits eight, a pizza oven and barbeque stove. The table looks across the bocce pitch to the hills beyond and, on a starry night with the wood-fired brazier burning, we enjoyed good food and company. In a former life Gwenda ran a catering business so the food was good. Wines can be matched to the meal but, as we’d been buying the wines of the King Valley all weekend, we had our own to enjoy with the dinner.

Dinner started with some delicious pizza bread, followed by two different servings of antipasto – one of oven baked marinated vegetables and another with various meats including prosciutto and salami. This was followed by plates of baked sausages, barbeque salmon and marinated roast chicken with great side salads including one with faro.

Staying at Casa Luna is not cheap, but the accommodation is superb in a modern, comfortable genre. I would recommend the King rooms over the main house wing, because they offer just that little bit more. The food meets the standard of the accommodation and more than makes up for the shortage of other night-time options in the area. As hosts, Gwenda and David are easy going and welcoming. If you are on a visit to the King Valley’s wineries, Casa Luna is where I would stay.

Room Tip: Stay in the 'King' Rooms, they offer just that little bit extra.

Thank you for your excellent, very comprehensive review of Casa Luna. We are delighted that you enjoyed the ambiance of La Piazza, the outdoor wood-fired kitchen, and the relaxed, friendly service we strive to offer. Sorry about the stylish ensuite sink - typical Italian style over function! They look great though.
You enjoyed sharing Casa Luna's King Suites with another couple - imagine 4 couples having the whole of Casa Luna to themselves, with David and Gwenda to attend to their every whim. We look forward to welcoming you back.
