My husband and I are regular visitors to the Outback in Muncie. We love the variety of menu choices, especially the fish, as we are not big red meat eaters. The grilled salmon, tilapia with crab meat stuffing, and mahi mahi gold are all great, as is the ahi tuna appetizer which we sometimes order as our entree with side dishes of rice and vegetable. The servers are all well-trained, courteous and do what they can to make sure you are having a meal that is to your satisfaction. The managers are also on top of things and have helped out when I've had a special request or a question. While they don't take reservations per se, we always do "call ahead seating," which decreases our wait time.

Just a note on a chain which Muncie has a ton of in their restaurant row. We have been many times but went one night and the kitchen totally screwed up our order, there were 6 of us. The manager came around and told us she would comp the whole meal and make sure everything came out right. We've been to a ton of places, Olive Garden, Red Lobster, Ruby Tuesdays etc. and when they make a mistake, you're lucky if they don't charge you extra. This was a special surprise and has earned our loyalty. Plus the steaks aren't butter knife soft, but they are consistently good.

We have eaten at our share of Outback's. We had not been to one in a while and with not many local resturants to chose from in Muncie we decided to hit the Outback Steak. Great Choice.
The resturant was clean, the service was fantastic, and the steak, drinks and salads were top notch.
We only had a short wait and really enjoyed ourself.

When you go into any Outback, you know what the selection is going to be, what the place is going to look like and you have an expectation of the experience for the next hour or so.

But, when you get a staff that seems to care about their guests (not just customers) and want to make them feel welcome, the formula of a chain eatery goes out the window.

We were greeted by genuine smiles and since we were waiting on the rest of our party, we were offered bar seats or what turned out to be very comfortable lobby seats. When everyone arrived, the staff made very sure the young child (under three) was accomodated and she was actually greeted by the server as if she would be the fifth plate of food at the table--not merely a crayon dropping, drink spilling nuisance.

Attention was fast as was the return with drinks and the waitress showed great patience as we we needed to get details from the other couple about the event we were celebrating (acceptance into a doctoral program this fall) and were taking a long time deciding on food.

I am prejudiced toward warm bread at a table and when it is of the quality of the loaves at Outback, I am overjoyed. Four of those lovely brown "appiteasers" hit the table and I had to channel all the manners my poor mother tried to instill to keep from just splitting one, slathering it in butter and diving in.

My salad was pretty run of the mill, as are most salads in chains, but the steak when it arrived was cooked to absolute perfection (somewhere between rare and medium rare--middle two thirds pink to reddish with plenty of cool juices). Normally, I like a little Lea & Perrins with the steak, but this one needed no help. Great flavor, just a hint of smoke, good char on the outside.

We had not been in a while since it is not on our daily path, but will make the effort to get back there for another piece of beef, a large baked potato, and a place to escape the world outside for about an hour.
