We camped for three nights in Elly, one of the two sites with river views in Mvuu lodge. River views, with hippos, fish eagles, herons, egrets, lapwings, crocs and monitor lizards made our stay unforgettable. There is no electricity; the generator is switched off after sunset, so we enjoyed amazing sky views and stars reflections on the river. Oil lamps guided us to find the toilet in the dark. The toilet and shower is private for each camp, and there is hot water from a boiler powered with a gas bottle. They are also open-air, which is a very good idea, as anything that comes in can easily get out (you know, all these unspecified multi-leg/wing creatures which fly erratically on your hair and face if they feel trapped but ignore you completely when they don’t).

Friendly staff prepared our camp fire every evening, and also guided us to avoid the elephants that decided to visit our spot one evening! We had our dinners in the restaurant which has marvellous river and sunset views. The food was rather average and quite expensive, we would advise self drivers to come prepared to cook themselves, all the facilities are really good.

We did a 2.5 hrs boat trip and we saw a lot of animals, a very memorable experience.
This is a great place to relax and enjoy a really wild feeling.

My husband and I went here for a quick get away from Lusaka. It was exactly what we needed. On the drive to the lodge, we saw 2 elephants, a family of warthogs and a group of impala! The views from Mvuu are beautiful. We enjoyed a great fishing trip, which is kind of like a boat safari to enjoy the hippos, elephants and birds as you float down the river. So relaxing! The safari tents are lovely, and a real bonus was the hot shower with good water pressure in the en suite! Make sure you keep the safari tent fully zipped up to keep the naughty monkeys out of your room. We self-catered, which was made so easy for us - the staff set up the stove and brought a trunk of cutlery. We didn't even need to wash any dishes! And they set a fire up for you at night to enjoy the warmth and fire light while gazing at the stars and chatting.

Lovely lodge on the edge of the mighty Zambezi. Manager (Troy) very helpful. Private campsites, each with its own ingenious open air WC & shower. Generator electricity during daytime hours to keep the beers cold and batteries charged, but lovely peace and quiet from dusk into the evening. We didn't stay in the luxurious safari tents, but the campsite was simply wonderful.

There were nice little touches that made my safari experience at Mvuu very enjoyable. The drink on the boat to the lodge, the friendly welcome upon arrival and the sweets/flowers on the bed, too.

The guides are extremely knowledgeable and are happy to answer any questions. The vehicles are in excellent condition and are very comfortable.

The food is tasty and the portions are generous.

Room Tip: Lodges 3 and 4 are very nice!

Lovely, don't expect gourmet, expect family like cosyness. Not from the people (well, if you're lucky your fellow capers aren't too loud), but the monkeys, hippo's, elli's, crocs, tf's, and so on.

Room Tip: try to stay on the left side of the restaurant, as the hippo's will be running around on the oth...

We camped here on our self-drive safari which was very good value compared to the lodge accommodation. There are four camping spaces with their own open-air bathrooms (and plenty of hot water). Two, Elly and Mvuu, are right by the water and have great views of the river. We camped in Mvuu and watched elephants on the shore just below our tents. No electricity so it is beautifully dark at night athough an oil lamp is provided to illuminate your bathroom.

We had one meal in the lodge which was not great (loads of food but very plain), we would recommend self-catering (at the moment anyway). We went on two excellent boat rides where we saw stacks of wildlife.

THis lodge is in a lovely place on the banks of the river. You can often see hippos and elephants from the lodge. Good food. Well run activities. Comforatble beds. A great place to stay.
