“Nice lodge and rustic sleeping cabin”
Reviewed 10 August 2014

We stayed in one of the rustic sleeping cabins for 2 nights, with plans to go mountain biking and hiking in the park. The cabin we were in (Stew Nugent) was small but very nice. It was one large building split into 4 separate rooms. Since we were in a room designed to sleep 3 (double and twin beds), we assumed that the other 3 were the same. The cabins was nice and has been kept updated over the 70+ years. We were right across the parking lot from the main lodge, so it was an easy walk to get breakfast and use the aquatic center. The aquatic center is small but great - our 14 year old really enjoyed the little river you could float in. Breakfast in the restaurant was very good. All of the staff are very friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend this for lodging if you are visiting Brown County State Park or Nashville.

Brown County is beautiful and we thoroughly enjoyed our time in the park and at the indoor water park. However, the family cabin we rented was a big disappointment. Housekeeping and maintenance don't seem to be doing their jobs. There was a pile of dirty wood and leaves scattered on the porch and a lot of carpenter ants around. Found two carpenter ants crawling in the silverware drawer when I opened it. Place smelled foul. Refrigerator needs to be replaced. Standing water in bottom and all the shelves rusty with water dripping out of the freezer. Yuck. I had to wash everything in kitchen before using it. Really didn't want to prepare any food there. Beds were okay and bathroom towels looked new. Sofa beds were terrible but we brought air mattresses so we didn't have to use them. What if we hadn't brought them. Sliders to deck were smeary and walls had drip stains on them. They did give us a 15% discount upon checkout but that doesn't really replace the three days that we wanted to share with our children and grandchildren. They said they were going to be replacing all furnishings soon. If you go, ask if they have done this. The setting is beautiful so they need to fix this situation.

Room Tip: Ask if the family cabins have been updated and renovated since August 2014. We stayed in cabin 16.

We stopped by only to check it out and decided to stay 1 night. We were on our way back from vacation in another IN state park but we just had to hang out here for awhile before ending out trip. It was such a nice place overall - the room was clean and spacious, the pool was fun for all of us including the 8 yr old who can be hard to please. She didn't want to leave, mostly because of the pool. We enjoyed the food in the restaurant and the park was lovely. We went to the saddle barn the next day and that was a blast, too. You can lead a pony around with your child in the saddle for only $2 for about 20 minutes which was plenty. Good access for my mother who uses a walker to get around. We will definitely be back again.

Room Tip: Rooms in the 100's are closer to the pool area. I don't think there is a bad room in the pl...

We only stayed two nights in July but we thoroughly enjoyed it. The room was very clean. The water park was smaller than some but just the right size for us and for families with small children. The food in the restaurant on site was delicious and plentiful. The lodge is in close proximity to Nashville, Indiana which has many quaint shops and places to eat.

Room Tip: Ask that the room not be directly across from the vending machines.

I had not been to Brown County State Park for 60 years. When I returned in July I found it just as lovely as ever. It has been around so long it has old style class and charm. The Abe Martin Inn is sweet - I stayed in one of the simple but adequate cabins. This is a Nature place where you can be surrounded by trees and walk on a variety of trails ( one short one was paved and so pleasant for me to walk and enjoy)
Dining at the Inn was good. There are many places in nearby Nashville to other options.
Brown County State Park is a wonderful, natural gem of a place to be quiet and centered.

Abe Martin Lodge has large rooms, small bathrooms, and is clean and comfortable if somewhat dated. The beds were fine - not luxury, but more than adequate. Lounge area with games and large fireplace was nice. It's beautifully landscaped and set in the lovely Brown County State Park. Staff was very friendly. Water park was nice - we didn't get to use it much due to an 'accident' but they gave us an extra day's wrist bands to make up for it.

WiFi only ok. It worked best in the hall, ok in the room, was intermittent in the lounge.

The worst thing was the restaurant. We ate breakfast there. Much of the food on the buffet was cold, the eggs were terrible, and the coffee was instant. We decided not to eat there again. Not a huge deal - plenty of great places in Nashville itself.

Staff was very friendly. They did not have the buffet set up. the two of us had the club sandwich. It was a good sandwich. We also got the soup and salad bar. The cold bar was very nice and had lots of good selections. The soup was good as well. The lodge atmosphere was very nice and rustic. I would go there again.
