“Worth a visit to this rural gem”
Reviewed 29 July 2013 via mobile

Nice trails; decent place to fish, boat, hike, picnic, or bike for a day or weekend. Only about 3 miles west of New Castle via CR 200 So. to Greensboro Pike southwest of town. Fairly large fish like bass, catfish, and crappie can be caught from the 180 acre lake that only allows for trolling motors. The modern campground is open from May through October, while some of the facilities are handicapped accessible. There is also a 6-1/2 mile bridle trail for horseback hiding as well as a 10.5-mile single lane moderate level mountain bike track that circumvents the lake. There is a $2.50 entrance fee per vehicle with varying fees from $1/day for a rider on a bike to $4.50/day for a rider on horseback. Camping is $24/nite for W & E or $18 for seniors, tent, or horse camping. A large shelter can also be rented. Annual passes are available for entrance, boat launching and mountain bike permits.

This is a quiet lake that is peaceful. A terrific park for a family. Nice camping area. Close to New Castle.

“Nice for LONG Hikes”
Reviewed 24 February 2013

This park is a little bit out of the way but it is nice and secluded. Most people who come here stay at the campground and fish because they have a very nice lake here. We have been a few times to Geocache and hike. Their trails are much more rugged than those at Mounds Park so it's nice to have a bit more of a challenge. The trails however are really meant for mountain bikes and are not designed for walking. The trails are narrow and they are choppy in parts. If you are going to hike the trail, be sure to wear sturdy hiking boots or shoes or you will regret it. The area is very clean and it is not crowded.

My only complaint is that the full trail is very long - it is 10 miles of up and down. Once when we were there, we were half way around and it began to rain - then pour out of the blue. The problem with this was there are NO "escapes" to the trail whatsoever. Once you are in, you are in it to the end and it is a single, one way trail. And I am talking a 4 hour hike here for two able bodied experienced hikers. Almost every other place we have hiked had some way to get off the trail and onto a main road in the event of an injury or rain or whatever. This is not the case here, so if you got hurt help would have to come the way of the trail just so you know. On the day we were there and it began to rain, the trails became a slippery mud pit in no time and it seemed like it took forever for us to get back. Next time we might take bikes just in case.

“Nice area, clean park.”
Reviewed 15 October 2012

It isn't the greatest park I've been too by any means, but it's nice for New Castle. In my experience, it's been a fairly clean park. We take a boat out on the lake from time to time, but keep in mind the most power you can have is a trolling motor. Just so ya know. There's a few bike trails, but none of them are too advanced. They're fairly well kept though, and make for a fun place to ride casually with friends.

“Mountain bike single track”
Reviewed 9 August 2012

Great track with some hills ... Intermediate level. Could use some more difficult optional loops.. Back when DINO was racing here, the track was better groomed, but it's still ok...
