I definately liked Rancho do Buna, Atins is small, really small with no infraestructure at all...and in the middle of nowhere appears this ranch wih comfortable chalets, avobe average beakfast, and a great leisure area with a wimming pool. it´s 110 reales per room per night,, was my most expensive stay but worth it.
Rancho do buna is for the kind of travelers (couples mainly) with a medium/high budget wo wants everything arranged (tours and transportation)by the ranch host, Monica, ...and you pay for it!
We spent 2 nights (one &half day), did 2 expensive tours: 40 reales per person to go to Canto do Atins that is only 15m drive max (we didn´t know that, its around 1 1/4 hour by foot) and 50 for the other to lagoa Verde.
Monica is a delightful person, dedicated to his guest, send me mails with complete info prior to my arrival...but I saw some evil behind this angel face: she didn´t help us to get the regular toyota back to Barreirinhas (10 reales per person) cause she wanted to sell us the 4x4 heading straight to Delta Parnaiba (my next destination) for 600.
Even more: she forgot to pick us up as arranged when we came from caburé by boat.. we were with luggage behind a tough sun for the 20 min walk till the ranch...her only explanation was she had a terrible morning cause of couple of pets injured.the only compensation was a free welcome water.
Worst yet to come: even when the complete site of the ranch has several tours and its prices (Canto do Atins was 25 and no 40) she said this info was old and no longer valid.
I decided not to argue, you are on vacation and sometimes save some bucks costs not doing the tour and defend myself here writing it.
Atins it´s a great spot, un unknown jewel, and rancho do buna it´s worth it...but beware of doing some "downtown" research to do the tours and to get out of Atins not leaving everything in Monica´s hand if your budget its limited...the difference could be huge!

The Rancho Pousada do Buna in Atins is perfectly located to visit the National Park of the Lencois Maranhenses. The owners - Buna and Monica - are extremely nice and helpful in organizing trips to the park and to/from San Luis.

I do not recommend Rancho Pousada do Buna. Although the employees were nice, the owners (Buna and Monica) were extremely unfriendly and unpolite. The rooms and the decoration are original, the food is okay, but the pousada is isolated and the only means of transportation are the pickups owned by Buna, which are very expensive.

If I would go back to Atins once again, I would stay either in the Pousada do Irmao (098) 3349 5013 - pousadairmaoatins@hotmail.com, or in the Pousada Tia Rita (098) 9993 7537. They are local people (not as Buna and Monica who come from Sao Paulo), and are very friendly. Their pousadas as more modest than the one from Buna, but their hospitality compensates it.

The location of Rancho do Buna is ideal nearby the lencois.
All the surroundings are incredible.
The hotel has some good infrastructure with a pool, a nice sala.
However, the night is a part of nightmare with mosquito fights (bed protection against mosquito is inefficient, moreover all the roosters will give the rythm all the night long...),
For food quality is ok, price are high , 10RS for a caipi record in Nordeste!!! better to visit the barzinho nearby.
And to pay......no credit card authorized for suche a price ?
In conclusion, could be avoided

If you do a trip overnight from Barreirinhas you will probably stay in Cabure. If you get the chance ask to stay in Atins and stay here. Much nicer in my opinion!
The place has a swimming pool and you get a separate cabin as a room. The rooms are fine but basic, bathroom is very big.
The main area is really nice and well designed. Lots of hammocks around the place and if you head up the stairs there is a top deck that gets the breeze from everywhere and hammocks hang here as well. Food is excellent and they do the prawns that that the area is famous for.
The wife of the owner speaks English fluently and they can arrange trips into Lencois park (they are closer than Cabure).
Well worth spending a couple of days there.
