I called the Farmstead Inn and reserved 1 room for 3 nights for New Years 2010. Was told of a special they were having. Bring in 10 non perishable items for the food bank and get a percentage off of rate. Good idea. It was only good untill the end of the year 2010. We were staying until the 2nd of Jan. But was told that if we brought in 30 items the 3rd night was free. When we arrived we were told that they would not honor this arrangement that was made by the clerk. The check in clerk had an attitude from the time we stepped up to the desk. There for we decided to go else where. We ended up not having a very plesant New Years. We did talk to the manager the next day about what happened. But got nowhere. I will not be recommending this place at all. while it looks good on the surface, the service is not good.

The motel is in a great location, right across from the flea market. The breakfast was fine, and plentiful. Would have liked it better if it ran a little later for folks who like to sleep in on vacation. The rooms were clean.and a good size. The shower in the bathroom was awful...felt a need to "run around " to actually get wet. The beds were not great probably about time to change them .I feel, for the cost of the room a few amenities would have been nice. A bar fridge to store a can of pop or the cheese we purchased at the market across the street would have been nice. Maybe a coffee maker in the room. There was coffee available in the lobby but quite a distance from my room. Maybe I just expected more, because so much of this is standard in a lot of motels these days.

We took our family vacation this fall and stopped in Shipshewana, IN for two days (one night). Farmstead Inn was a beautiful hotel and was in a great location. You could easily walk to the flea market, although we did park across the street since the flea market itself is so big and it was easier to put purchases in the car rather than carry them. By the way, the flea market is more modern 'closeouts' and 'seconds' than antiques -- there were only a few true antique dealers at the time of the year when we were there. However, we walked to the antique store next door to the hotel, and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Great store, beautifully displayed, and relatively normal pricing. We really also liked the Menno-Hof museum -- we also walked to that next door. The breakfast at the hotel was very nice -- yogurt, boiled eggs, bananas, apples, muffins, biscuits and gravy, oatmeal, cereal, etc. along with juices and coffee. We enjoyed the very clean rooms, good food, and perfect location in Shipshewana -- 'would definitely recommend it! Somewhat pricey, but was everything they said it was. Nice pool, too!

Just returned from another trip to Shipshewana and staying at the Farmstead Inn. Makes a person not want to come home. Such a nice, clean, relaxing, comfortable place to stay. Staff very helpful and very friendly. So very clean. Near wonderful shopping yet quaint and peaceful. I go there 4 times a year and have for 13 years in a row, and have yet to ever be disappointed. It is a must see.

The walls are pretty thin in the rooms. Luckily our neighbors were quiet, but we could hear some of their conversations. The shower head was way too low, and kind of chintzy considering the rest of the room was high end. Very comfortable bed, two club chairs made it nice to be able to relax without having to lie in bed. The continental breakfast was not very good - have had much better at lower costing hotels.

After staying in Bed&Breakfasts the last 3 stays to Shipshewana, we decided to stay in a hotel this time. We chose the Farmstead Inn based on positive reviews here on Trip Advisor as well as the very close location to the Flea Market and the heart of the city. There is plenty of parking at the hotel and it is only a short walk to the flea market or you can pay $3 to park at the Flea Market. We decided to try to check in early at 11am but were told the rooms were not ready but we could register and come back after 2:30pm. We decided to drive to the flea market and pay $3 for parking. They gave us a coupon for $5 off Farmstead Inn hotel stay. However the hotel would not honor it since we had "already registered" but of course were not allowed into our room. Then to make matters worse, we found out the hotel offers free parking passes but they did not tell us that when we registered. They told us when we were checking out and said we could have asked for them the previous day.. We found the hotel and our room to be very clean. We were in a standard double room which was very roomy. The beds were just ok. We did have a few problems in the room such as bathroom door would not close, air conditioner occasionally made awful noise during the night, and the shade on the window was falling off when you lowered it. We meant to report these things prior to discharge but forgot to so I can not report on whether they fixed them in a timely manner. The breakfast buffet was nice but very crowded. It is only served from 6am to 9am . We went at 8:15 am and had to wait in line for almost 15 minutes. Maybe it wouldnt be so bad if they extended it to 10am. The pool was very nice but on the cold side. Not sure if it is heated or not. They also have a indoor basketball court and ping pong tables. Outside there is a nice playground and walking paths. They have several sitting areas in the hotel that are nice gathering areas. I would definitely stay here again. Compared to big name hotels, I did not find the staff to be as friendly and helpful as I am accustomed to.
