“Best value for the dollar in Shipshewana”
Reviewed 6 August 2013

Our third trip to this cute little motel just outside of town and near the flea market that has made Shipshewana so famous, and we were not disappointed. A hot breakfast has been added since our last visit, the rooms are still beautiful and clean, and the price is easily the best in town. It is built the old-fashioned way with outside doors (no center corridor) and you park right in front of your door. Lots of room and friendly staff complete the enjoyable stay.

Nice simple room that was perfect for a stopover. Breakfast was typical but was ready on time and everything was hot. We filled up at the farmer's market later. Very nice people run the hotel and it shows. Air Conditioner didn't really cool the room off and I had it turned all the way down.

This motel is very clean and well run. The family that runs it is friendly and helpful.

Just because this motel is in Amish country, don't think you're getting Amish hospitality. The owners run this motel on a very tight budget. Evidence of this includes cheap, small-sized toiletries; surcharges for extras (cribs, late check-out, etc.) and a below average hot and continental breakfast. On a positive note, the rooms are fairly large and WiFi is free. Book through DirectInn.com and save a few bucks.

We reserved two rooms one week before our stay. The woman at the hotel asked if we wanted single or double bed rooms, we asked for single and they quoted us the price of $54 per room on the phone (after I pointed out the price was $54 online). When we got there we checked in and they gave us double bed rooms. We assumed that they just didn't have any more single rooms. Then they charged us for the double room rate and told us we should have come to request a room change when we found double beds. Would not refund the difference. The hot breakfast was bad. Didn't open at 7am as it said. Then things were not ready when they opened at 7:10. Sausage and gravy cold, biscuits hard, waffle maker took 20 minutes to warm up to temperature. The rooms were clean and the area is nice. It's a bit far out of town.

Nice older motel. The room (115) was very clean. However, the beds are a bit hard if you are used to sleeping on a tempurpedic mattress and with the temperature being in the lower 90's it was hard to get the temperature in the room to cool down. The motel advertises a hot breakfast and with it being in the heart of Amish country, I expected a little better breakfast. But overall it was a decent experience and I would stay again if in the area.

The owners are very hospitable. I never have the free breakfast, but noticed that was the only real complaint for those who gave this place 4 stars instead of 5. My thoughts are: really? It's free; if you don't like it go eat at an Amish restaurant, which is one of the reasons I am there anyway. I began staying here about 5 years ago and it has only improved since then. The new owners, of about 2 yrs., really take pride in keeping the place clean and fresh. It is no suite, but it is a simple country comfort. I visit Shipshe about 2-3 times/yr. and this is where we have always stayed since 2008.

Room Tip: All of the rooms appear to be about the same.

3 friends and I stayed in this motel during our visit to the Shipshewana Quilt Festival last week. The motel was VERY quiet despite being full. The room was very clean and comfortable and the staff was very friendly. Breakfast was good--a lot of choices. My only complaint? The juice didn't seem to be "real".

Room Tip: Rooms on the south side are quieter.
